*opens up a door, wondering where the hell he is. Takes a watered down martini(I.E. 99.99% water and the rest alchohol..) and sits on a comfy swamp stump*

Anyone else making thier underwear and anything directly beneath them yellow? Half-life2 will suck up most of my free time this fall. I mean, JA wont compete against it. Only KoToR will.

The cool things about it is the physics and shadows. You can "pick up" (via the Manipulation Beam) any object(and I mean any object. A bird, a turd, a box, even a fox!Oh,and a nice zombie-fied corpse. Not kidding) and then swing it against some other objects, like boxes or desks, and they respond according to the laws of motion. Hell, you can pick up a matress, and it flips and flops when you swing it at something.

Then there's the shadowing. Normally, you'd think it would just be something to increase graphics. But no, Valve is brilliant and made them replace polygons. Thousands of polygons are replaced by one, with VERY clever shading. Which means lots of extra processing power. And it means you get decent graphics with low specs. I mean, 800mhz and a DX 6 compliant card low.

Oh, and then there's the AI. Brilliant. They follow you, they determine wether it's safe to fight or flee. You now dont need to babysit them. For the most part, they can handle thierselves.

Now some links...

That shows you how they made the 1-polygon walls, as I told you above.

Those give great information on Half-life2, and up-to-date news on it.

That gives great information

I saw all 700mb of the preview movies and It looks awsome. You forgot to mention the amazing facial animation Ty. Everything about the game seems amazing. The physics are awsome, the detail is stunning and the A.I is the best ever. This game is going to rock.

And don't worry GUNNER, it is supposed to be easier to mod than the original half life, so expect Counter Strike 2.

Oh my josh. Get you butt to your local game store and buy it now. It is bar none on of the best FPS games made. I'm sure you can even find a used copy for maybe $10 or less.

I also liked Opfor.. Blue Shift wasn't that good but it was a HL knock off so I had to get it.

Any one ever play any of the other few hundred single player maps made out there..

I hjave played about 50 HL single player maps and jsu about every one of them was awesome.

The "They Hunger" maps by Neil Manke were great. He also did USS DarkStar.

There a quite a few HL single player sites out there to DL them from.. Go check some out. You wont be disapointed.

Yes I am!! This game is going to be great and I'm looking forward to it soooo much!! Yes it's probably better than JA and Doom III and Deus Ex 2 and the rest :)

/me smells over 100 game of the year awards :)

Of course I'm looking forward to Half-Life 2. No self-respecting hardcore FPS player wouldn't be... ;)

From what I've seen (a few of the shorter 'trailers' and all the screenshots) it certainly looks very tasty, and it's inherent modability will obviously give it the long-standing success of it's predecessor.

Now that the engine is in place, perhaps it won't take quite as long for them to pump out Half-Life 3 (yes, there will be a third, because it's a trilogy - apparently).

In spite of all it's great features, though, it's still not at the top of my wanted list. That is definitely reserved for Deus Ex 2, because Deux Ex 1 is my favourite game of all time, closely followed by Jedi Knight/Outcast.

I'll definitely be getting HL2 on release, though. I just hope they don't try to 'rush' it to meet their promised deadline. I'd rather have a slight delay and solid performance with no bugs, than need a patch a few weeks after release to fix things just because they wanted to stick to a particular date.

And yeah...Rythe and GUNNER...please try to keep on topic. Now you've sorted your PM problem...you might want to remove some of those redundant posts. Thanks guys. ;)

Not so, my friend. ;)

They've been building the engine over those five years - but the game itself has only been in development for about a year. It's the game I'm talking about in terms of bugs, not the engine. ;)

Yeah look what happened to Star Wars Galaxies, people are paying to beta test if you get my meaning ;)

Ditto. I've never really liked half-life to begin with. Im more of the UT type since it respawns faster than halflife.

EDIT: You have to sign up to see the movie :-(.

It's free to sign up. It doesnt require the membership that you need to pay for.

Oh and..half life respawns as soon as you die. Unless you mean Counter-strike and DoD. Counterstrike is rounds, and DoD is every 15 seconds, if I remember correctly.

Yes, I cannot wait for this game. Half-Life is one of my favorite games for one reason. The story.

The story is done so well, it's unbelievable. The scripted sequences are hidden inside the gameplay, actually giving you the feeling of being a part of the story itself. Half-Life 2 will do this much better, which is why I'm so psyched.

Oh, and all that physics stuff is really cool as well.

:D
