ASk
Well, you have to put the pk3 in ja base dir, but other than that, if the map uses textures from JK2 that are not in JA, you have to copy these too, because otherwise, parts of the map will be untextured. Wudan
Read your JA license agreement - it's not legal, it's hurting another LucasArts product.
NVShacker
It's legal if you don't distribute it.
GothiX
Ok, to get it straight, it is legal to use Raven's work for another game they made. And as both games are made by Raven, it's legal.
sights0d
Actually, I'd heard that it wasn't legal to move stuff from JKO from Elite force, both Raven products. Hmm.
NVShacker
If you release Raven content, it is suspectable to people who don't have a right to use it thus illegal. If you made something which extracts the nececessary data and adds in new files to get it to work then it would be legal.
GothiX
Emon told me it was legal, he claimed to have e-mailed Raven about it.. and I trust him.
razorace
I think the best course of action is to ask Raven. The lawyers that wrote the EULAs for the game don't seem to know anything. Technically, you're not allowed to have the SDK on the internet either.
Wes Janson
Other than the pure legality of the subjectmatter, yes, JO levels will work in JA. As said above, you'll need to port over a pk3 file or two in order to see the textures. But I pretty much played through the entire ladder level wihtout any game-breaking problems. 5by5
which files specifically do we need to put in ja? i tried just renaming the asset files and putting them in, but that didn't work.
sights0d
Remember that when the map was compiled, the game was looking in a certain directory for textures. It would need to find those textures in the correct location. Aside from that, I'd just drop it into the correct folder.
Cosmos Jack
Well if they're not legal I don't think they would be posted so blatantly on these sites.... There is a good majority of them there mainly the CTF, Duel maps, and Bespin FFA. I don't think it is such a bad idea to port them over. JKA has a shoty supply of maps. What's all this Legal or Illegal crap you're all like a bunch of freaking kids wanting to be lawyers or something. I'm sure they already thought of people doing just that. "porting material from JKII to JKA." If they didn't want you to do it they wouldn't have made it so easy to do. If you want to know if it is "OK TO DO THIS" stop debating and fined out from RAVEN for yourself. Assumptions are the mother of all "F" Ups. Where I found out about them... http://www.jediknight.net/ Where I found them..... http://pcgamemods.com/5/157/
GothiX
it'd be easy to port JO maps to return to Castle Wolfenstei, too. But you'll get a lawyer from Raven and LucasArts on your ***, so really, I wouldn't do it.
NeoAnalysis
Raven resources can probably be swapped around in this case. Things to note in your readme.txt though should be that you had no hand in creating the original code, art, planning, or implementation of said files. TAKE NO CREDIT, and make sure to give the approriate credit to raven. However, if this area is still too grey for you to distribute under, Raven can't possibly know what you're doing on your computer. Just don't distribute once you figure it out and you can still be a happy clam. PS. Don't charge money PPS. I in no way condone copywrite violations
