Large Vehicles

Recommended Posts

Now, I don't know if I'm the only one, but I really think the spacecraft in JK3 have a LOT more potential than they were given creidit for. Right now, they're glorified easter eggs. However, even a small amount of modding could make the vehicles in JK3 rival X-Wing Alliance or any other Star Wars flying game. (Though I've not played XWA, keep in mind.) :D

Depending on how flexible the vehicle engine is, we may see AT-AT's strolling across a battle of hoth map, while rebel snowspeeders move to take it down! (Though probably not with the cool grapple lines.)

Orrrr, maybe we will see a Death Star map, where the rebels objective will be *duh* destroy the Death Star! :D

I see a lot coming from the vehicles in the future... But certain issues with them are balance, and homing weapons. (Homing weapons are WAY too easy to lock on with, and they deal a LOT of damage.) Again, minor modding would probably do the trick.

Well that is very possible and probably not that hard to do at all. The Lambda Shuttle is the largest vehicle in the game and is able to carry a pilot+several passengers so an AT-AT with room for 2-3 extra troops would be easy to accomplish.

As long as it was very slow and was balanced with other small less armored vehicles that could be an awesome map.

First off XWA is far more complex than this.

The vehicles in JA are more like the vehicles in the Rogue Squadron/Battle for Naboo series.

Third person only, point and shoot.

In the X-Wing Series (of which XWA is a part) you have resource management (power to shields, weapons, or engines) and you have first person cockpits, etc. and a much wider variety of vehicles in space.

I'm not dissing the fact that vehicles were put into JA, but they're the "arcade" variety rather than the space combat sim variety.

I'm all for people modding them to improve them though. The main problems now are the handling, the fact that they explode shortly after being landed, etc.

Making large maps like seen in KOTOR_Flight_School and cutting down on the number of indestructable world objects that get in the way as well as putting "portals" on the keys and floors to teleport you back into the map if you go off would improve the experience greatly.

I wonder if it would be possible to make bots that can fly ships?

; )

Heh, I didn't know all that about XWA. Still, the mod community has done some great work. (Counterstrike anyone?) It interests me to see what could come of it all.

You're right, a better teleport system would be nice, (One that turns you around maybe, a la Star Fox 64 :D) and less indestructable objects would be great. (Kotor suffers from having too many unbreakable asteroids.)

Either way, great things will come of this. :D

EDIT: Oh, and DB. I RECOGNIZE YOU FOR THE WAY YOU TYPE. LOL

I like the 'Arcade' variety. :D I'm not a fan of flight sim games, but in the few FPS titles I've played with vehicles, they've always been simple to control, and all the more enjoyable for that. I've played Mace Griffin Bounty Hunter recently, and controlling your starship in a dog-fight is easy as pie. Mouse to move viewpoint, Forward for Thrust, Back for decelerate, Left and Right for yaw. Basic, but a lot easier to control, and I think that kind of control would suit JA for the majority of players, especially if more vehicles are made available for 'Siege' mode.

It's unfortunate that Raven decided not to include the space combat type scenarios for Siege. I hope they will reconsider at a later date, and release it as a bonus pack - especially in light of what UT2K4 will be offering.

True, Raven MAY still release things like this in a future patch, but I don't want to see these go the way of Saga mode. :D

I really think the mod community will pick up on anything Raven misses.

I recently thought of something though... Is it possible to set up a vehicle with a points allocation system, like Force? If so, I think it would be cool to allow people to tailor their strengths and weaknesses in vehicles. :D

Kinda like "pilot force" settings.

Remember that (in)famous screenie with the XW that seemed to be flying towards a star destroyer..... deep in the commands, you find things like stardestroyer.nav. It is most liekly that this is/was part of a siege map/campaign...hopefully something to be supplemeted by Raven. Someone on one of the stuck forums was asking the Raven chap who popped in there about this, needless to say there was no repsonse.....

Anyway, as fun as it would be, we probably shouldnt be getting our hopes up too much. If you want a SW flight game that'll knock your socks off, borrow your 10 year old neighbour's gamecube and have a go at rogue sqaudron 2 (and soon 3!). If your into more retro simming, XWA is superb, great storyline to boot....
