Manquesa
just wanted to post to show off my current awing model. Almost ready to release just need to rework some of the textures and fix a problem i'm having with the model as discussed in this thread: http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=115877 It's a static model right now. Just for placement in maps as map_objects. I haven't looked too much into the whole flyable vehicle thing yet, so maybe later i'll remove the landing gear from the model and make shader's for the engines and make the thing flyable, sounds like a lot of work though but like I said I haven't looked much into it yet. http://f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/manquesa/vwp?.dir=/awing&.dnm=aw1.jpg&.src=ph&.view=t&.hires=t http://f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/manquesa/vwp?.dir=/awing&.dnm=aw2.jpg&.src=ph&.view=t&.hires=t http://f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/manquesa/vwp?.dir=/awing&.dnm=aw3.jpg&.src=ph&.view=t&.hires=t Try this link if the others don't work -- http://photos.yahoo.com/manquesa

DarkLord60
That is nice but are you going to make it so you can see through the glass to see the cockpit?
Manquesa
I was planning on it, but for now, I just want to be done with it. As decent as this one is turning out, it could definitely be done better, I may do another version more complete and accurate and with a full cockpit. Just frustrated now with the problem i'm having as mentioned earlier. So I could still use help there. Thanks everybody though

Manquesa
well, I finally got that problem fixed, so now I can get the model in game. The screenshots that I posted before were renders of the model in 3DS Max, so of course they looked good. It's not gonna look that good in game though, unfortunately. As you'll see in these screenshots I took. http://f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/manquesa/vwp?.dir=/awing&.dnm=shot0000.jpg&.src=ph&.view=t&.hires=t http://f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/manquesa/vwp?.dir=/awing&.dnm=shot0001.jpg&.src=ph&.view=t&.hires=t http://f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/manquesa/vwp?.dir=/awing&.dnm=shot0002.jpg&.src=ph&.view=t&.hires=t Obviously the model is way too big so i'll need to scale it down. Also I need to make sure I get the smooth modifiers in there and I still need to rework a few of the textures. And just for the record, although I did make the texture maps for the skinning of this I didn't really make the textures. I suck horribly when it comes to making textures. I happened to find some good pics of a model somebody made (not a 3d model, but actual photos of a real model). Anyway so I just used PS7 and cut and pasted the pics onto the texture maps and then used the hell out of the mask tool various parts of the pictures onto other areas of the texture maps so they'd match up, and really if you get too close to this model it doesn't look good at all. The only texture I did make myself was for the cockpit and you can see how horrible that is. Oh, and yeah I know the landing gear looks like ski's but you try find a good reference pic of how they're supposed to look. And I hate the way the landing gear on the Awing toys look. This will be released soon!

Manquesa
Thanks for posting that link Yun, appreciate it. Originally posted by imyourfather Thumbs up for both modeling and skinning it. I stopped at modeling. Yeah, that's actually why I almost gave up on modeling, I really can't make textures at all. I had another model before I was working on, but at least 2 different people were supposed to skin it for me but they never did. So the model never got finished. I may get back to it though, we'll see. Originally posted by RaSiN_HeCk of course! use the sexy Twi'lek to make the shots look better! tFighterPilot
What's happening with it? Why it isn't a flyable ship yet? Many are waiting for it!
Manquesa
Yeah man, what the hell is the problems, why's it taking so damn long.. Oh wait, that's me, uh, well i've been busy with work and haven't had much time to work on it lately. But also i'm having the same damn mesh and/or texture problems I was having before when I was trying to export as .md3. The same thing is happening now trying to export to .XSI (glm/gla/whatever). I may resort to starting the whole thing over, which I don't wanna do, but i'm running out of ideas here. Either way man, it'll get done and hopefully soon! Manquesa
yeah, .md3's are only useful as map_objects. Flyable vehicles require animations, bones, tags, etc. and need to be .glms. Anyway, i've made some progress today. I've kinda fixed the inverted mesh issue. It's strange though and is making it very hard to work with. As was suggested a while back, I flipped the normals of the mesh to fix the problem (I had tried that before and it didn't work, but for whatever reason it's working now). But now everything is flipped when veiwed in 3ds max, so it's very hard to see what i'm working on. Now I just need to redo the uvw map for a few parts, and then create the exhausts and weapons, radar/shield dislpay, landing gear animation, etc. It is in game flying though, maybe 1 more week and it'll be done. I hope. It's becoming quite an annoying project and I wanna be done with it so I can move on to other projects (Slave 1!).
Usurpo
Not to be the pin in the baloon or anything, but doesn't that cockpit look kind of...err...blockey? I mean, I can see distinct patches...can you maby make it 180 curve or somthing, so it doesn't look quite so blocky? Besides that and the transparancy, it looks great. If you need help with Beta, let me know.
Manquesa
the pic your refering too is old. that's when I was making the static version of the ship. Due to the inverted mesh issues I couldn't export to .md3 so I had to make it an .ase file instead, the .ase doesn't smooth the surfaces for some reason. I've since fixed it and gotten the .md3 to work, the surfaces are now smooth. I may re-upload to pcgamemods the static model of the .md3 to have a better version out there. Manquesa
Ok, i'm back on track with this thing now, I finally got all the mesh issues with the model worked out thanks to ChairWalker. Now I can focus on the weapons, engine exhausts, shield display and reticle. Hopefully won't be too much longer.
Manquesa
Finally, i'm done with this thing. It's on pcgamemods.com now. http://www.pcgamemods.com/3038/
