Im saying is that i CANT open EFX files with WinZip. I know how to open assets, using WinZip.

not sure if this has anything to do with it, but try this:

 

use winzip or pakscape, and open assets1.pk3

go into the folder effects, and then the folder atst

export the file called shot and open it with notepad or wordpad

mine looks like this (except for the spacing that the message board changed), is there anything different?

im guessing its that or some of your files in assets1.pk3/gfx/effects got renamed.

Some things have been misplaced or disappeared for some reason. I'm having my own problems. I'm not getting any textures on trip mines, thermal detanators and golan arms. I don't know how it happened cos I've always had the textures on these weapons. But these things happen when you're modding. That's gotta be the reason.

Is it because you have the matrix map or bespin map? It gives untextured models and stuff

That is a true fact. Whoever made the matrix make THE BIGGEST Mapping mistake. Instead of creating a UNIQUE texture name for certain stuff(like water), they went and used it as "their texture" for whatever, and it caused more problems in other maps, than the map itself being a fun map. I only played it once online and got bored to tears on it, and I am a moderately big Matrix fan.

 

But definitely check to see if you perhaps joined a server crow that had you download a mod that is does change some of the efx settings. Mods can overwrite stuff in the assets1.pk3 and the other asset files through other pk3's. So just look for anything file that stands out.
