IG-64
my question is why does everyone want to use first peorson sabers? I did this only a couple times with JO, it sucked arse, I coudn't fight anyone with it, but I guess for realism people like it..
Astrotoy7
"Realism"...... Star Wars....Lightsabers.....The Force.....A computer game...... Not much reality in any of that Im afraid.... But yeah, FPSabers is shyte, I hated it in JKI but had to put up with it because its 3p view was ridiculous.... MTFBWYA

razorace
Well, I think a lot of people like it because they think it looks cool....which it does. However, it does make controlling the saber harder to do. From testing, I'm guessing that if you just use a single saber, you could probably do ok while using True View. Rotep
Whohoo, thanks Razorace!!! MP down, now all we need is SP . As for why do people like 1st person? * There are first-person types, and there are third-person types. * You will never get a 1st person fan to like 3rd person. * You will never get a 3rd person fan to like 1st person. * Plus, JA/JO 3rd person view bounces and sways...annoying even some hard-core 3rd person people. KoTR did 3rd person perfectly, JA/JO 3rd person has much to be desired. So don't bother to argue with each other. It's Raven's job to ensure that both are happy, they failed on both JO and JA in that respect. I am a 1st person type, I will never like 3rd person. I will never buy an x-box/ps2/cube because console games are mainly 3rd person. Not would I have bought JA if I knew that they dropped the 1st person feature from SP. Realism is the reason why I like it. And it *does not* have to exist for it to be simulated. Trust me, they knew EXACTLY how the F-117 stealth fighter would fly long before they ever built it. Realism = immersion into the storyline/game. I don't fee like I'm a part of the story when looking at the back of some cartoon's head. Be safe all! Rotep P.S. This argument has been going on for 10 years, and the fact is that a FPS must satisfy both views. It's the developer's job to do both, or to pick one and do it well (and lose the customers who like the other view.)
Prime
Originally posted by Rotep KoTR did 3rd person perfectly, JA/JO 3rd person has much to be desired. Can you explain to me how KOTOR system would have worked for a FPS/TPS lightsaber game like JA? Originally posted by Rotep It's Raven's job to ensure that both are happy... Actually, it isn't. It is their job to make the best game possible with the features they think are best to implement. The customer must decide whether those features are what they want. If they aren't, indicate this my withholding your dollars. Raven does not have to please everyone, and they owe you nothing. They supply a product, and you can purchase or not purchase that product. If most people don't want those features, they will know from the profits. Originally posted by Rotep or to pick one and do it well This is exactly what Raven did. You can decide whether they did it well or not. IMO they did. Originally posted by Rotep (and lose the customers who like the other view.) Or try both and potentially lose all customers because they didn't have the time/reasources to do both well, and ended up doing neither well. Picking one way to go and doing it well is often the best way to go in a business sense. You can't do everything. There are probably good reasons why they didn't do a first person view, and it is not because they are lazy. Originally posted by Rotep Not would I have bought JA if I knew that they dropped the 1st person feature from SP. Perhaps you should have checked if this was the case before buying. It was common knowledge more or less since the game was released (and I don't think it was ever claimed to have been included beforehand). Not only that, FPS lightsabers was not a supported feature in JO I believe, so there were no gaurantees this time. Easy enough to check before throwing down the money. I don't have a problem with people wanting first person. But it seems silly to me to think that Raven owes anyone anything. You either want what they have made or you don't, and it is the consumers job to find out if the game has the features they want
Tyler_Durden
to be honest, it was really hard to find any real info concerning the gameplay in regards to the 3rd/1st person views for JA If i remember correctly, there wasn't. Plus the casual players who enjoy 1st person and don't peruse through every single bit of information were probably real disappointed. But it's really kind of moot now, the game isn't that great anyway in terms of fun factor and a lot of people have moved onto better games. Kurgan
But yeah, FPSabers is shyte, I hated it in JKI but had to put up with it because its 3p view was ridiculous.... Couldn't disagree with you more! JK1/MotS had one of the best 3rd person views of any FPS game I've ever played. Sure for guns it wasn't as good (lacked a third person crosshair for one thing) but then again this was 1997-8. First Person looks cool and sometimes its more useful (For blocking blaster shots for example or seeing something very close to you). Plus it has that "immersion factor" that is often lacking when you're just staring at the back of some guy on the screen. I like having the option to switch to it at the touch of a button. I missed that in JA. PS: And yes, yes, yes, people will inevitably say that Third person is "more realistic" than first because you have "peripheral vision" like you do in real life. Well if that's your argument, then try this: cg_fov <#> (insert value here, 80 is the default, you can apply this to first or third person viewpoint). View swaying can also be toggled off, but I forget the exact command. It's on the Top Solutions FAQ JK2 page that Raven put up awhile back. saurumonk
took the post right outta my hands... /cg_fov 20-30 will get you a decent first person mode...however its almost impossible to play accurate especially with single spins if you have a 19" or have the luxury to play on a tv i would suggest a fov_150- that should take care of those monkeys that like to swing behind ya to ambush... Perhaps. But certainly this was well known a day or two after the release date. All I'm saying is that people could have made the effort to find out this information if they wanted to. Originally posted by Tyler_Durden Plus the casual players who enjoy 1st person and don't peruse through every single bit of information were probably real disappointed. Most likely and this is unfortunate. All I am saying is that it is still the obligation of the customer to find out if the product has the features they require. Complaining after the fact does not make it the company's fault. Originally posted by Tyler_Durden But it's really kind of moot now, the game isn't that great anyway in terms of fun factor and a lot of people have moved onto better games. Probably. I've been playing a lot of KOTOR, but after this bit of a layoff from JA, I'm kind of looking forward to a second run through SP.
