A nice touch and I hope other brands do this too. Originally posted by BlackDove ATI = AMD nVidia = Intel Wrong. ATI has some major issues with AMD chipsets. How do I know this? Because I have a $159 ATI Radeon 9600XT for a door stop now. Many of the new Radeons require you to install and/or update your VIA and AGP drivers prior to physically installing the chip. Some AMD type boards (like my Asus) have incompatibility issues with this in the Bios. Here are some problems I've had with ATI and AMD. 1) The ATI 9600/9700/9800+ series, for example, will not let me manually set the AA (x1, x2, x4, and x8). Windows does not want to boot in 8x. My nVidia card has no problems with this. 2) Catalyst drivers have been known to be glitchy, buggy, and not always up-to-date as far as direct X and Open GL is concerned. I've never had a problem with Nvidia drivers. In other words no KOTOR with ATI (had problems with OpenGL 1.4). 3) The fact that you can't just install the card and go is rediculous! You have to update your AGP and VIA drivers as well as uninstall other card's drivers in the process. Imaging you buy all new pc parts and want to assemble it right away. Without onboard video or another card you're screwed. We've tested many different cards on different pcs. So far ATI works good on Pentium chips (especially with hyperthreading) and poorly on most AMDs. As far as Nvidia GeForce cards are concerned, we haven't had ANY problems with them on any chipsets. I like Gainward Geforce cards personally, but a friend of mine buys the cheaper Best Buy version (Asylum I think) and they work great too. I don't know anybody that notices a difference between a 128mb card and a 256mb card, well except that one guy is broke from buying a beefed up card, lol. Some claim that the 256mb cards with 8x AA will be ideal for games like Half Life 2 and Doom 3, but after seeing the demo I wasn't impressed. Some game developers say that 8x AA will make things like lush scenery appear, well, more lushous I guess, but I doubt that. I look for resolution/Max Hz rate. I bought the Radeon 9600xt because it had pretty good stats at the time. 640x480 = 120hz 800x600 = 120hz 1024x768 = 120hz 1152x864 = 120hz 1280x1024 = 120hz 1600x1200 = 85hz Good fps for gaming and I paid $159 when the card was selling for $200+ Unfortunatelly it just would not run on some of our AMD rigs so we got rid of it. I hope this helps.
Crow_Nest
I have an Nvidia card. I dont use ATI. Most games are run best on nvidia compared to ATI cards, people have done many experiments on them to make sure. And i've never had any problems with nvidia cards while i heard that when you install a new ATI card you can boot up or something. I also find that even old nividia cards (like Geforce 4 Ti) get good FPS in most games.

QuantumDelta
After they fixed the overheating (idle fan) problem. Most definately Nvidia. Compatibility and reliability. GF5200FX Here, sure I lack a little with the Pixel Shading punch, but this is only a temp card before I grab myself one of the new Nvidia cards due out "Soon". QuantumDelta
Everyone is jumping on the ATI badwagon. The FX Line was a completely re-engineered card which is why it's a little weird compared to the other cards they've produced, ATI Cards are fussy gits. In terms of Performance, the top end of both groups = roughly the same. So it ends up being personal preference. The bottom end, though, Nvidia looked to corner that market, and as far as I'm concerned, they did.

Well, the FX series doesn't follow DirectX9 specfications too well, so that's why some(including me) prefer the radeons. In reality, I've had few problems actually stemming from the card itself. Heck, I'm running an Nvidia N-force2 motherboard(NF-7S) and a 9800 Pro, and so far I've experience zero problems. Then again, I play few games and there are problems using AA with certain games(Battlefield Vietnam comes to mind). And Crow, I've never heard that rumor before? You're probably talking about turning the LargeSytemCache on, which usually causes problems with Ati cards.
Sabretooth
Let's see... I have a nVidia Riva TNT2 Model 64 Card, 32 MB VRAM. Myself, I support both since both keep coming up with stuff better than the other. This time, I'm supporting nVidia and waiting for a GeForce or sumthin...
