Joshi
I recently turned 18 and can now vote. Who should I vote for? (rhetorical by the way) The Monster Raving Loony Part for having the best name. Actually, I'll probably vote GP because me and my friends made a pact that we would when able to. Or I might just go back on it and make sure Blair stays out of number 10. Herman Toothdecay
I'd vote for Bush, not that I agree with his new government programs and immigrant policies, but when I look at John Kerry I get the dry heaves; his policies and ideals are more socialistic than democratic. However, I don't want to risk getting drafted during college so I don't think I'll be voting this year when I turn 18 =) . Also, I really wish people would stop saying that Bush didn't win the election because he didn't win the popular vote. You see, in America, we were smart and came up with a system so that based on the population of any given state, the candidate who wins in that state gets a certain number of Electoral Collegate votes. In this way, the smaller states don't have as much of an affect on the outcome of the vote as larger states do. Don't be ignorant, my fellow Americans, please; our country's future depends on it. =)
Joshi
Okay, so either there was a typo there you you just said that if you live in a smaller state, there's really no point in voting because it won't make any difference. Please note I don't live in the US and so don't know if what you said was right or not. Please inform me. Oh and sorry, but Originally said by the guy directly above this post... Herman... something Don't be ignorant, my fellow Americans, I'm sorry, but it's so easy to make a joke out of that that I just won't bother. But I'm sure 90% of you non- americans (and even some americans) will come up with something silently in their heads. Oh, and in England, we simply count the votes and the guy with the most wins. This works on the playground and it works in government which just goes to show that if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Please note I don't live in the US and so don't know if what you said was right or not. Please inform me. The electoral college is based on the number of senators a state has. And that is usually based on populaton. Say, Bush wins the popluar vote in Missouri, he'll get 12 electoral votes. This isn't as important as say, California, which has like 58. But it's winner takes all, so say Gore got 49.9% of the popular vote in California, and Bush got 50.1%, Bush will get all 58 votes or whatever California has. So he'll want to campaign in California instead of say Montana which has like 3 electoral votes. See the problem with the election of 2000, Gore won the popular vote but Bush won the electoral college. So, basically more people voted for Gore, but Bush won anyway. This system makes a little sense in the fact that what the population of California thinks is much more important than what the population of Montana thinks, though I think just having a system of whoever wins the popular votes is much more fair. As much as it's true that USA is arrogant, self-important, and somewhat ignorant, let sleeping dogs lie for now. Because of these reasons USA is $6 trillion dollars in debt and so just let this country lose power globally. I would care, but I'm moving out of this place once I get the chance and that chance isn't too far away.

There was a great number of people who "voted" for him that had been deceased for quite some time. 4) "Don't be ignorant, my fellow Americans" ? Ahahahahahaha Funny. No really. As long as we're reading from the same page here (or at least in the same library) I still stick with the popularity vote, it just makes more sense that we adopt a leader we all want. SamNMax
To all the cowards hiding behind Bush: Now, I'm not the smartest man in the world by any means (most of you know that), but I remember a portion of certain speech by Mr. George W. Bush, that went a little something like this: There's an old saying down in Texas that says, "Fool me once... Shame on... Shame on... Shame on you.... But fool me then, we won't get fooled again. Now, if you're as dumb as him, and you think that that's the actuall saying, then you're pro Bush. I know this one kid in my school who is generally smart except when it comes to politics. He says that unfortunatly, democrats rule this country... Does that not piss you of, right there? This ass obviusly doesn't know that more than 60 goddamn % of the people in office are republican. He also says that democrats are communists and should get out of this "Great Country". Now, I'm democrat because my family owns a small bussiness, and yet he still thinks that my parents should quit there jobs and catch the next bus to Hick City, USA (Texas). When I argue with him about who's the better president, Bill "Slick Willy" Clinton or Bush "There's an old saying" Dubya, he always says thyat Clinton would have declared peace with Iraq, and we'd get bombed the **** outa. Now I am no means a Clinton fan, but even if the guy did get a hummer by sopmeone who wasn't his wife, he would have done a damn better job than Bush. But anyway, I always win the arguement because I bring up the "Old Saying" Speech. If you ever get in an arguement with one of these people, just bring the "Old Saying" Speech. It never fails. Joshi
Originally posted by Ernil Ar. Ahh, even more Irony. But You have to admit, apart from the whole Clinton fiasco, he was a better pres than Bush. if you forget about the scandal, he wasn't as bad by far as Bush is. And by the way, in my last post I said "I still stick with the popularity vote, it just makes more sense that we adopt a leader we all want." Yes, I do see the irony in the fact that even though we took the popularity vote we still ended up with Blair, but it's got to go wrong at some point right? I mean Thatcher wasn't too bad and Major was okay. meh, whatever.
