MennoniteHobbit Posted April 16, 2004 Share Posted April 16, 2004 I am really bored now, and just thought of an idea: who wants to create a Google Bomb? hehehe If you don't already know, Google searches for web pages that have the text you're looking for... but occasionally, especially on blogs, a result comes up with the text you're looking for, but with a totally different link/site. So, if you type in a key search term, and click on the button "i'm feeling lucky," it can link you to a totally different (and appropriate i hope) site. I don't see the point as I only use Google for searching for things I actually want to see, and I can usually tell if I'm in the right direction by looking at the result before clicking it. • If I do click on a link and it's not what I want, I'll click 'back' then the next result. No frustration involved, no anger. Just a kind of general apathy really. Don't let that stop ya though, I'm sure not all Googlers are as unconcerned as I am about not getting exactly what they searched for first time. And whether it will piss anyone off depends on what search term you use...some guy google bombed President Bush's whitehouse.gov bio into #1 for the search "miserable failure," but since then there's been a kind of google-bombing competition between President Bush, former President Carter, Michael Moore, and Hilary Clinton. But you could basically google bomb anyone into #1 for whatever search term you wanted to...you just have to have enough people linking to it. And if people were willing here to do a Google bomb, as so many people go to LF, we could get a lot of hits per link.... just a thought. and no i don't wanna make people mad.
