I have 2 rubber bands, a wire over the top of my mouth, and it does freaking hurt for like a week or so after you get them tightened. I think day 2 is the worst. Clemme w/Stick Posted April 30, 2004 Share Posted April 30, 2004 I got braces as well, and will have them for the next year or so. I dont really mind them. It takes about a week or so to get used to them, but after that its a walk in the park. I've had braces for some years now, and never really minded them. This is my 3rd and last one. As for the pain, it'll go away in a couple of days, once you're used to them. Trust me, they're not as bad as you think. jon_hill987 Posted May 1, 2004 Share Posted May 1, 2004 I heard that in the US they put braces on nearly everyone when they are children because all Americans are obsesed with having perfect teeth but in the UK they only do it if there is a genuine reason for it. I was supposed to get braces as my bite is to deep, but the appointment to over a year to come through and I hadn't had the gum infections my dentist had promised me, so I didn't go. they look painfull though.
