How will you tell your teammates from the enemy?

Yeah I was wondering this because all the movie footage I have seen it can be difficult to tell the difference from the good and bad guys from afar. More so when your in a vehicle. I know in SOCOM 2 your team was marked by there name above there head in white. So how would you tell the difference. I have never played BF:1942. I see alot of team kills coming in the heat of battle if you can't tell somehow.

Maybe there will be a team color bar above your teammates head similar to what you mentioned about the name color being white. Each team could have a different color. The only problem with that is if there a lot of teams there won't be enough colors to differntiate.

Maybe we will have team names that could be shown next to our name above our heads similar to the way SWG shows a player's guild name in parenthesis next to their name above their head.

Just turn friendly fire off. I don't understand the 'realism' garbage, it's a GAME. It only causes trouble anyway, there's always some 12 year old kid with the hobby to TK you all the time.

Well if FF is on, I'm sure they'll mark your teammates like with an icon over their head.

It's the only way to play. I like your idea of icons, but I would rather have their names above thier heads so we can communicate better.

Typically in games like this, there's some sort of player tag system. Works one of two ways:

1.) Your teammates are typically 'lit up' within a certain distance from you, even through walls - you'll see their tag hovering over their position. Then when you put your crosshairs on somebody, their tag appears whether they're enemy or not. This is how it works in BF:1942, and the distances that the tags appear at can be tweaked.

2.) Tags don't appear over a player where they are standing, instead they're displayed at the same spot on your screen as a part of your HUD. The usual spot is dead center left-right, and below the crosshairs up-down. This is also usually combined with a change in the color of your crosshairs - typically red for hostile and green for friendly. This is how it works in UT:2004 and R6-3: Raven Shield.

Could go either way here.

Yes, it's a game. However I for one won't set foot in a non-FF server. There's better ways to take care of TKers, namely bans. If you're stupid enough to throw a grenade into the middle of a huddled firefight, then you deserve the ridicule. Non-FF takes some of the skill out. You can then just go running around blasting everything that moves, and magically your allies don't get hurt! Comon....

FF pushes the necessity of teamwork and communication between players and diminishes the effectiveness of everyone-for-themselves Rambo tactics. It truly is the only way to play.

This is how it works in SOCOM 2 but I didn't know how it was in BF:1942.

Same thing in SOCOM 2 with the crosshairs.

I think a radar should display your teammates, but not your enemies. So if you're really unsure, check the radar.

About the FF thing, I kinda disagree, but I suggest that the person that got tk:ed has two choices: to slay or not to slay the tk:er... though I can already immature asses clicking Slay everytime just because they're pissed.

I think it was the admikn who played the game at one of the things where they allow you to play it, and he said the radar shows ur friends, npcs, and vehicles. not anything about enemies

How it works is teammates will appear blue in your target reticle and enemies will appear red in it. Also your teammates on your radar will appear green and your enemies will appear red on the radar.

It will also be kind of hard to team kill because the weapon doesnt auto aim for allies but it sort of helps lead you with enemies that are reallly close

Thats what wil happen because in trailers you see the crosshair turn red for enemies and green for allies.

That sounds like a good idea. Change crosshair colors when pointing at enemies and allies.

Thats nothing new, I knew that I was talking about if there will be names above your teammates heads like in SOCOM 2.

I do like having friendly fire off because of the fact that there are TKers that take advantage of that. Then again you have people that use aimbots. If you have FF on then it renders that almost useless.

wow another radar post.

How can you tell your teammates from enemies? Well there's the standard "are we red and they're blue?" mentality or maybe its even more obvious. Last time I checked stormtroopers wore white, if you're a rebel shoot anything wearing white if not a rebel shoot anything NOT wearing white. Same holds true for the clone troopers.

Identifying uniforms and vehicles according to faction is a sign of someone who paid attention to the movies, books and games. If you're unable to there's always Halo.

I hope there is someway to turn of radar, because then there would be no need for foilage or any hiding places. Which is what i like about Ghost recon. Yeah I have to agree with havoc it is pretty easy to tell apart because with each pair of armies there is an all white team except maybe the dark trooper.

yeah, i hope radar can eb turned off too, since i like sniping and sneaking up on people... But if there are radars, well, people that played halo know they shoudl always keep their eyes on it!

People that played lots of other games too, probably...

Final thought on all seeing radar (showing both opponents and teammates)... its a bad, bad idea. I'm sorry but if you need radar of this type you need to spend less time in the arcade and fewer hours on your PS2 or Xbox. Why? You've been spoon fed for too long and can't deal with even a whisper of reality to get you through a game competatively.

All seeing radar negates the possibilities of ambushes, flanking and an entire host of attacks. Nearly every encounter would become head-on because as soon as you see an enemy on radar you'd turn to face them. Sneaking, concealment and sabotage would all be out the window too.

Showing teammates promotes better teamplay and sometimes prevents Team killing. It allows you to better coordinate efforts and know where the action is.

If they do decide to cheese the game out and put all seeing radar soon to be known as training wheel radar or A.D.D. I'm too impatient to look for an enemy radar I sure as hell hope they give servers the option to turn that 13 year olds' crutch off.
