vulcan_sniper
I have read alot about aircraft, yet i have seen nothing about landing and taking off. I need to no this because of a bunch of differant reasons: first, in hoth or rhenvar, i wanted to be able to take a sniper in a snowspeeder up, land on an AT-AT, and snipe off all those below without them shooting me for fear of endangering there own walker. Second, I need to no that i am gonna be able to take off, swoop down on some clones, pick them up, then take off again. Third, what about landing gear? will it come down when you slow down and get lower to the ground like in Battlfield 1942? fourth, do some craft even HAVE landing gear? and fifth, how did any of the people in previews i have read fail to miss the details of taking off and landing? HELP.....
Virtuosis
Assume its like BF: 1942, or a lot like it, or for any console expect it like any console flying games basically. Because I don't think anyone really knows much about flying, but I didn't hear that they had a new flying system for the game so expect it to be a lto like other games with ships. It isn't, it's much easier. You can watch it on one of the gameplay movies on IGN. I saw a droidstarfighter, it took of vertically, then got speed. To land it started hangin in the air above a spot, then go down vertically. Planes in battlefront won't be like planes in battlefield at all. Like I said before, they made it easier to allow all people to grab an airplane. It will probably be more like flying a bungie in Halo.
Virtuosis
Yeah I just watched a movie with two jedi starfighters taking off basically as described they rise a little slowly, than they just take off gaining speed rapidly. Looks just like it should with starfighters really.

THE BADGER:
first, in hoth or rhenvar, i wanted to be able to take a sniper in a snowspeeder up, land on an AT-AT, and snipe off all those below without them shooting me for fear of endangering there own walker. Good idea!!! Not sure if it will work. But good idea!! Second, I need to no that i am gonna be able to take off, swoop down on some clones, pick them up, then take off again. Well in the OPM movie a stormtrooper jumped in the air with his jetpack next to a jedi starfighter and just warped in. So I would guess you could swoop down and allow more troops to get in. Third, what about landing gear? will it come down when you slow down and get lower to the ground like in Battlfield 1942? fourth, do some craft even HAVE landing gear? Well in the OPM movie, on Hoth a snowspeeder took off from one of the bunkers, and you could see the pilot jump in and as he took off the landing gear raised. So I would say yes. sadisticmonkey
I'm pretty sure the one with 2 Jedi Starfighters is on the official site on the Kamino movie.

Virtuosis
The movie I watched was the OPM video, and I also had info from this trailer someone made of all the existing videos on the web about this so I couldn't tell you where it is but it should be on IGN, because apparantly IGN has evrything. joesdomain
I saw the kamino gameplay video on the official site! I saw a Jedi Starfighter taking off from a landing platform.
Tyler_Durden
I think landing and taking off depends on what kind of flying vehicle you're in. For instance, an x-wing, tie fighter, jedi starfighter, etc. are more like jets and so you have to have a more open area or landing pad to land safely like in bf vietnam. Whereas a carrier type vehicle like the republic gunship is more like battlefield's chinook in that it has more control in terms of landing and taking off, in otherwords you can land vertically and not have to worry about a landing pad. Just my thory as i have not seen the movies of any craft landing in the game.
Dragnarr
I believe every flying vehicle lands and takes of vertically as shown in the clips of gameplay footage. It doesn't rise to very high though, but enough so you can start the flight without worrying to crash right at the start
Tyler_Durden
yeah you're right, i just saw some footage of the separatist fighter taking off, it looks like this game uses "star wars physics". That's cool, though, i don't even try to drive the flying vehicles in battlefield, too hard but this looks like it'll be a lot more intuitive. Virtuosis
Just watch the video I was wrong its nothing like battlefield. If you really want me to be nerdy basically the repulsorlift lifts the vehicle into the air vertically like a harrier and than it just launches forward and gains speed, again just watch the videos provided, and that'll answer everything. vulcan_sniper
Hey these are GREAT videos! thanks guys, helped me out alot. The movies are taking me a really long time to download, though. The latest took an hour and fourty-five minutes!
joesdomain
I wonder if they give you the option to manually open and close the S-foils whenever you want in the game on the X-wings.
vulcan_sniper
I think they would. Maybe theyd close if you got on alot of speed. Or maybe they would.....*gulp*.......replace the secondary weapon (proton torpedoes) and replace it with changing s-foil positions!

tFighterPilot
Originally posted by Navix_Ceraq I think its the same as SWJKA.. and that was easy That's the first time I heard the game being refered like that. Is it so hard to simply say JA? What's JKA? Jedi Knight Academy? Was Jedi Outcast ever been refered to as JKO? No! So why does every one call it JKA, or worse, JK3? nortenyo
Landing and Taking off is very easy. You push the land/take off button...typically "jump" once inside the air vehicle. Landing gear do retract on most vehicles that have them. Take off and landings are vertical in nature and occur at slow speed. It's fun to see how creative you can get with your landings, too, as you can land just about anywhere you want.
