Hey you Nerds

I use a combination of Spybot, Adaware, WinPatrol, and Spyware Blaster to keep me Wintel machines runnin' smooth.

Use of a software (like Zone Alarm) and hardware firewall is also highly recommended.

If you EVER use IE at all, get Webwasher. It blocks up many of the security holes that Explorer is known for.

And, hopefully I don't really need to say this, but if you don't have a Anti-virus program installed: GET ONE!!!

AVG is a good free one, although that's generally the lind of thing I like to actually pay for.

Go here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads31.html to get most of the programs you need to kill the insidious, creeping crud that a spyware infection tends to deposit.

Thanks, I have VirusScan and a firwall, but my computer has been a bit funky lately anyway. Trying out the Adaware one right now, hopefully it will fix everything.

I use both AdAware and Spybot. They seem to compliment each other perfectly. What one misses the other catches.

The Spyware Blaster program keeps a database of spyware ActiveX signatures on your machine and blocks them from ever installing in the first place.

How did the clean-up go?

So far all I've run is the Adaware one, but I think i'll take your advice and run the Spybot one in the next couple days. It found like 118 things for me to delete. Most of them were labeled something called iWon. If that means anything to you. Not sure if all my problems are fixed yet, just have to wait to see if they show up again.
