jtsword
i want to go old skool with monkey island 5. i think it should go back to 2d instead of 3d and should be like monkey island 3. what does everyone else think?
jtsword
i also beleive that it should be point and click just like all the good adventure games are like mokey island 1 2 and 3 and broken sword 1 and 2.
Cosmo Jones
I am with you all the way. The 2-D environments still seem to best fit the adventure game genre; besides, the keyboard controls for EMI were just annoying. Give me 2-D graphics and a point & click adventure any day. jtsword
ive played games on the pc like the monkey island series and the broken swords, and i love them. at the moment im not playing many adventure games and wondered if there are any good '2d' point and click games that you would recomend? smokes o' pot
I don't care what way they do it as long as it is good. It's not 2d or 3d that makes a game good its the content. Personally i'd like to see 2d animation quality of CMI but with the character models from MI2.
Cosmo Jones
Well i'd definetly add Sam and Max: Hit the Road, Day of the Tentacle and Full Throttle as great 2D games; but those are getting hard to find. Though it is not 2D, i'd still recomend Grim Fandango as a great adventure game. Runaway looks pretty good; though I can't realy recomend it because I haven't gotten a hold of one yet. It's not 2D either, but it is a point and click adventure and has a 3D cell shaded look to make it seem more 2D.

jtsword
the curse of Monkey island in my view was by far the best of the all because of the enviroment the game was played in. what is sam and max like? Whats the story line? no spoilers
Alien426
Oh, it's wacky. You play the private investigators Sam (a canine shamus) and Max (a hyperkinetic rabbity thing) who have to find out what happened to Trixie the giraffe-necked girl. You definitely have to play that game!
jtsword
is grim fandango point and click?
Dark Clive
Nope, its in 3D and has keyboard controlls just like EMI. But hey, its one of Lucasart's best so who cares?
SubGum
I think they should do MI3 graphics with a higher resolution (800x600 or 1024x768). I wonder is cel-shading 3D would work...
ramy
As a 3D texture artist, I've never liked cell shading. It always still acts and moves 3d even if a still image "looks" 2d. In my opinion CMI was great. I really enjoy the 2d point and click aspect. It's very fun and entertaining. 3D for puzzle adventure games such EMI are just too cumbersome. Although there are advantages to 3d, it really changes the gameplay.

Of course tha's good for Zelda, it still looks good, but wouldn't work if it was actually trying to look 2D. The same goes for point n click adventures, but I suppose we'll have to wait and see what it looks like in the Vampyre thing that people are making that used Cel shading against (what I think are) still backgrounds. smokes o' pot
The good thing about cellshading is that they can stay through to the original style of a 2d game but progress the genre at the same time. Personally I think EMI would have looked way better if it was cel-shaded. Vampyre? Isn't that the game thats using the Half-life 2 engine?

I'm a 3D model and texture artise, as well as a graphic artist and authoring producer. My personal experience has been very good with cel, or in my 3D programs case, toon shading. Movement is very fluid, and clean. I think I do agree that MI5 would probably work best in 2D. MI3 had beautiful graphics. It just needs a higher resolution and smoother animation.
