RedHawke
^^^^ I agree with Achilles, you are about *this* close to becoming my hero as well. That is very, very, very cool bneezy! *Flying down Death Star Trench* Almost there!

T7nowhere
Originally posted by bneezy By animate, do you mean "saber on" and "saber off". Yes. is it like an instant on/off or does the blade animate like biowares?
bneezy
Correction. It does not animate. It just stays on. Only the front view seems to show up. The other planes are missing. It's like that in the gmax render window as well. Like I said, It's a start.
T7nowhere
I had the same thing happen when I recompiled biowares lightsaber. but only one plane showed. I don't know what causes that. Is the blade made the same as biowares lightsaber blades or is it something else.
cchargin
Hello all, The reason the blade does not look right is because the light saber blade uses a special mesh type that does not exist in Never Winternights. MDLOps does not import or export the saber blade mesh type right now, so that's why you only get 1 side of the texture. If you export the standard light saber, when you get it into gmax you will not see any blade planes. That is because the standard light saber uses only the saber blade mesh type. Now, if you look at the short saber or the saber staff you will see some blade planes that are tri-mesh. Each one of those planes also has a corresponding saber blade mesh, but MDLOps does not export those yet, so you only see the tri-mesh parts. So, why doesn't MDLOps export the saber blade mesh type? Because it has some additional data attached to it that I do not know how to calculate yet. Also nwmax would not know what to do with it anyway. I am currently looking at a way to try and get around this. Interesting trivia: The saber blade mesh type does NOT have any corresponding data in the .mdx file, it is fully contained in the .mdl. And of course the blade won't animate because MDLOps does not import animations right now.

It took me about 24 hours to figure out enough of gmax to make that. With a few online tutorials and some help from veteran modelers, I can honestly say that most of that 24 hours was just getting the model to look how I wanted it to. update

svösh
Great hilt Achilles ! I’m happy my lathe tutorial helped you, now we can hope that the blade mesh gets cracked so we can get some new sabers in game. As t7 said why not model something else in the mean time if you need a hand you know where to find me. svösh

PrtyLizardJedi
Very cool Achilles. But as far as I know, Luke's saber doesn't have those 'deepenings' at the place of white stripes. Good work nonetheless

They're more like v's http://www2.masterreplicas.com/StarWars/images/sw_prod_elite_sw127_lg.jpg http://www.partsofsw.com/images/jedsab.JPG Looks good anyway, but if you did change them to v shapes it would reduce the poly count a bit too.. I didn't have the second image to reference, so I made it up as I went along. As soon as someone cracks the animations, I'll get right on that Thanks for the links!!
