VampireNaomi
This is probably not the place to talk about this, but right now I am so frustrated that I don't really care. Delete if you feel like it. I've heard that people have trouble making Gabriel Knight 1 work on XP. Well, I can't even make that damn game do a thing on Windows 98. It complains that it can't find a mouse drive, whatever that means. I have tried everything my simple and not so good with computers mind can imagine. Suggestions (other than posting this stuff elsewhere)? Oh, and if you want to make me feel better you can always complain about games that for a reason or another have refused to work for you. DrMcCoy
...well, if your computer is fairly fast, you could try dosbox...
VampireNaomi
I am playing GK1 under DOSBox on my XP, but I got an old W98 just today, and wanted to play the game on it. On my XP the game doesn't have a very good quality of sounds, so... *sigh* Better just give and finish it on XP...
DrMcCoy
...or you could install linux and play it there with dosbox...
VampireNaomi
I tried installing one more time and this time it actually worked to perfection. I have merely been using XP for too long and have forgotten how to use older computers. The differences between playing on XP and on W98 are tremendous. The intro has a whole new theme and credits are nothing like on XP. Interesting... Well, thanks for giving me mental encouragement while I battled with this. Fealiks
Really, the intro and whatnot's different just cos of what system you're running? wierd ?:|?
Skinkie
I think I've played it on both with no problems, except that mummy/dirt demon thing that goes crazy fast.
Guybrush122
I got it to work okay on Windows 95, but the color was unbelievably dark and unadjustable. I've been trying to get all those dos games to work on XP, but for the life of me (no matter HOW many times I download it, or read the help instructions, or fiddle around with it) I can't figure out DosBox at ALL. DrMcCoy
...where's your problem with dosbox? it just runs!

I can't figure out how to start the game once I download it. I double click the executable, nothing happens still, regardless if dosbox is running. If I try to run it in the dosbox prompt, it doesn't run. Try to run it in the msdos prompt it still doesn't run. There has to be something I'm doing wrong, because my computer is A-OK and quite hunky-dorey as far as machines go.
