adillon
... not to mention that the conflict must have been an extremely intense one. anakin was the 'good guy', so even if the darkside was clouding vader's struggle, the anakin part could've been very evident to luke. rut-wa jodar
If that`s true, why didn`t Luke sense that Vader was his father before the end of ESB ? And what about Leia? she claims she had always known that Luke was her brother but had no idea that her father was Vader.

Kurgan
Let's keep in mind too that the quote is made by Yoda during the time of AOTC, while Palpatine, the powerful Sith Lord, is plotting the downfall of the Jedi, while hiding in their very midst. After the events of Revenge of the Sith (presumably), Palpy assumes all his enemies (the Jedi Knights) are dead, and so he would have little reason to continue to "cloud everything" with his powers. Why waste the energy when the threat has passed? Of course Vader didn't realize that Obi-Wan was still alive until he sensed him onboard the Death Star. And Palpatine didn't realize Yoda was still alive to train Luke either.

Remember it wasn't until empire that he even met face to face with vader. And when he did he was hit with the "I am your father"
Shok_Tinoktin
Originally posted by rut-wa jodar And what about Leia? she claims she had always known that Luke was her brother but had no idea that her father was Vader. She always knew, but she was not always consciously aware. When Luke talked to her, she didn't hear something that she didn't know, she just realized that he was pointing out something that had been there all along. The same can be said for Luke I suppose. After his initial shock at learning about Vader (keep in mind that Leia had this too), he was quick to discard what his mentor had told him, and accept what his enemy said as the truth. Kurgan
Another thing is that Palpatine wanted to kill Luke, but Vader convinced him to try to "turn" him (Vader wanted to keep his son alive and use him to overthrow his master). So Luke was freely allowed to use the Force, and perhaps if they had wanted to hold him back, by that time it was too late, and he was too powerful (that's just speculation on my part though). Jan Gaarni
Sheer irritation over the guy she really was interested in (Han). That's the reason.
Kurgan
Cause she didn't "really" know, the force just revealed it to her slowly over time, or perhaps it was just a hunch, she didn't know it for real or else she wouldn't have smooched him so much! That and Lucas was making it up as he went along (out of universe explanation alert!). ; )
