JofaGuht
On Wednesday my school brought a canine unit through the parking lots. At the time I was "ah, no big deal, administraters are just being ridiculous as always," but later that day when I saw a people pulled out of their classes, I realized this PISSES ME OFF TO A GREAT EXTENT. Today was a basketball shoot-out so there was barely anybody there. I got a chance to debate this issue with my teachers. My geometry teacher Mr. Smith brought up a few good points that got me thinking, but right now I've realized more good points on my side I should have said back. My english teacher Ms. I.F. didn't have much to say other than something really funny. I was talking about abuse of power, and she said something like, "ABUSE? You want to talk about ABUSE? Let's talk about DRUG ABUSE.....in CLASS!!!" But that got me thinking that parents and speakers may be using some sensationalism at their conferences. I'm a student, thus I experience the environment of the school more than the teachers do, and I can say that drug abuse there is not affecting my surroundings. And even if it is, it's not nearly as hurtful as the administraters' actions. What do you guys think? (Keep in mind this discussion is about school searches and not about drug legalization)
VampireNaomi
There have never been any drug searches in my school, but I doubt I'd have anything against them if they started arranging them. On the other hand, if they picked ME I would go absolutely nuts.
neon_git
Well, I can understand that the school has a responsibilty to ensure the welfare of it's students at school - and that includes taking drugs while at school (if you believe that they are all that harmful, which some of them are), not to mention the fact that in the US I wouldn't be surprised if a parent could in sue a school if their child was buying drugs there. Having said that, pulling kids out of classes is unacceptable. If it really was about ensuring the kids' welfare, then why would they go and humiliate them by singling them out in front of everyone. This should be delt with a cirtain amount of tact and care in my opinion. Of course I don't know all the details here, and I've never experienced this first hand, so I may be wrong - but I'll stand by what I've said until I'm convinced otherwise. El Virus
My school has never done a drug search. Things are differnet here, but still they gave us a boring lecture (not because I found the subject boring, but they mentioned the same stuff I know, if not less) where we discussed the problem of alcoholism and substance abuse. On the alcoholism one, a man who had a problem with alcohol, told what a big problem it is and how much bad it did to his life. It was quite shocking, and it made you feel sorry for the man. The drug abuse lecture was another thing, it was some sort of discussion where we mentioned what we thought about drugs, but other than that, they never told us the real problem. And from what my friends told me, the second day of this "Workshop", they had to do some sort of poster, and they kind of humiliated you infront of the rest of the school.(Good thing I was absent that day) What they did to you is really bad, I think no man is in a postion to speculate about that. Shuz
How did they humiliate you in front of the whole school?
Necroman
I dunno if my school ever had a drug search, but in the past 20 years 3 kids died in the bathroom from overdose of whatever (they didn't die all at once). But I have been acused by teacers of being sedated, even if everyone looked at me for a moment there was no humiliation. Actually some of the students started laughing at the teacer because of her comunist mentality.

A guy who's got a lot of drugs on him, and he sees cop-dogs, the guy's gonna take ALL the drugs.
GendoTheGreat
We get random piss tests at work. I've only worked there six weeks and we've had two already.
