OMG..... This really really sucks.

I wish we could draft doctors and send them there. Or pharmaceutical companies should give free medicine. Ok it's extreme but eh, a few millions in medicine out of pure generosity would make them look good.

My parents were boat people. They had to leave Nam in those tiny boats and ended up in a refugee camp in Malaysia. They got some help there, mostly food and medicine but also showers, clothing and shelter.

I hope they make a special fund for widows. God knows how awfully mistreated women are in those countries and they'll need money to survive after everything goes back to "normal".

Well it seems to have veered back on topic but if you all keep on arguing about how the US is or is not retarded about whatever blah blah blah I'm going to shut this thread down out of respect for the dead.

It doesn't MATTER if the US has been awesome or not awesome in the past. It's over and done. What matters is there are people dying, starving, and suffering and they need our help NOW.

I'm with you there ... the battered woman's shelter in Nashua is one of our particular favorite charities, because unfortunately there is a constant need .... and some of the people we've met are from that region and had talked about the general level of poor treatment.

As a husband and father ... I just don't get how one human can treat another one that way.

I don't want to 'draft' anyone, but I sure hope that people with skills donate them liberally ... all I have to give is money, which I give, but I still wish I could do more. It is just terrible to see ...

I'm alive. Not that I was in danger anyways. I was in Nagpur, in the centre of the country. Got the news the day it hit TV. It is rather unfortunate that it had to happen so suddenly. At the same time, the massive range is just impressive. I hear it touched Somalia and Kenya as well. Indonesia has probably suffered the most, though, my condolences. Good thing Crow's safe, I was worrying about him, considering the fact that he was right next to danger zone.

The tragedy has also given birth to many 'miracles' and adventures too.

News Flash:

Yesterday, Home Ministry of India announces that a second wave of Tsunami's will attack southern coast. This forced the people to desperately run from the away from the coast. The news was a false alarm as the Minister of Science and Technology, Kapil Sibal said.

Tsunami technology is very unreliable, atleast here in the Indian Ocean. I hear it exists in US and maybe Japan, but frankly, I don't think the former needs it. Atleast not now.

The Indian Air Force has begun rescue efforts throughout the ocean. Another unfortunate incident was when an IAF base in Andaman and Nicobar Islands was completely wiped out and no longer exists.

I'll bring in news reports later, as I get them.
