ZBomber Posted January 6, 2005 Posted January 6, 2005 GAH! It's the word that talks about how a fisherman lies about the size of his fish. I keep thinking tall tale, but I thought it had to do something with fish. Any help would be apprciated.....
Boba Rhett Posted January 6, 2005 Posted January 6, 2005 Cock-and-bull story, exaggeration, fable, fish story, flight of fancy, tall story, yarn, fairy tale, sea story?
ZBomber Posted January 6, 2005 Author Posted January 6, 2005 I guess it's fish story, but it doesn't ring a bell. And yeh, I tried dictionary.com
Lady Jedi Posted January 6, 2005 Posted January 6, 2005 Sound like a 'fishing story' to me. Anyways, I use the terms 'big fish story' 'fish story' 'fish tale' 'fishing story' 'flat out lie'. Another one is 'fish jive' I think. Take your pick. There's plenty more if you go to dictionary.com and choose the thesaurus.
IG-64 Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 Strange, I was just trying to find a word as well. It's a word I always forget, I don't know why. It's where you can't get something so you have to get something else that's not as good. It's not compensate it's....
Astrotoy7 Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 are you guys/gal serious.... *referring to above responses* 'The one that got away' is what you are looking for right Z mtfbwya
jon_hill987 Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 bah, if only I got up earlier... the one that got away was what I was gonna say.
IG-64 Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 No, it's something else, I tihnk it begins with an I or something.
IG-64 Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 Bah, it's driving me nuts now. Say you're working on something, and you can't quite get what you want due to restrictions. So instead you make ******s. It's not alterations, and I can't figure it out.
ZBomber Posted January 7, 2005 Author Posted January 7, 2005 I ended up using fish story. Still doesn't sound right.
BawBag™ Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 I have a feeling I've heard this before.... I think it starts with "a". ..... but thats only from memory. Sorry.
IG-64 Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 Improvise. That's what it was. My bro remembered it.
Lady Jedi Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 Improvise eh? Well, I was pretty close with compromise then. I can't believe I couldn't remember that; it's a great word! And ZBomber, that's too bad. Maybe it'll come to ya.
