OZGOD
I suppose I'm asking the question as someone who hasn't modded KOTOR1 before (didn't even know you could do it ) and who has decided to start modding K2 (without modding K1). I've been reading a few of the extremely comprehensive and well-written tutorials (eg Achilles' create a custom lightsaber and T7's create custom armors tutorial) and I'm getting a wee bit confused because a lot of the references seem to be to K1 (eg in T7's tutorial, I followed the process till he got to the part where you picked a texture out of a texture chart and I couldn't work out how to translate the K1 texture chart to the K2 textures). I basically got stuck there and wasn't sure how to proceed. Some of the more obvious ones (eg crystals' name and ResRef changed from g_w_sbrcrstlXX.uti to u_l_coloXX.uti - or am I wrong about this? D'oh!) I picked up but others I wasn't sure whether the instructions were applicable to K2. So I kind of guessed and unfortunately I think I guessed wrong on a few of them, as my items didn't work, bugger! How "backwards-compatible" are the Kotor1 tutorials to Kotor2 modding? Can anyone provide some insights? Cheers for any replies.
Bob Lion54
For the most part they should still be good. I know many of them have ben updated. I'm new to modding myself and the biggest problem I've ran into is some of the filenames seem to have changed, or new ones have been added. It would be nice to have them updated even more, but most of the modders that wrote them are working on a HUGH new mod. i.e., The Ultimate Lightsabre pack . So dont bother than to much, just kidding fellas, or am I? Seriously, they are great tutorials as is. Even if a few names have changed, keep playing around with it. You should be able to find everything. If not, perhaps you should try to explain exactly what you are trying to do. It might help one of the real modders answer your question. OZGOD
I already have - on another thread. I didn't want to start a whinge thread, I was just curious as to the difference between the two. I've run into the same problem as you - mainly filenames and such. But people put this together in their spare time, so I'm more than happy to work to their timetables. ChAiNz.2da
The modding basic 'mechanics' for TSL is pretty much the same. "This" referring to "that's" line for said effect... etc... TSL has added a few goodies (or not-so goodies) such as upgrade levels, new 2da tables and "hiding" dialogue trees in a completely 'odd' directory ... but all-in-all it's pretty much the same. As we're all getting our bearings and uncovering where the 'vitals' live, new posts and new tutorials will eventually emerge. Mostly, alot of us are trying to get some game play enhancing mods out first before getting around to the tuts (which in alot of cases... are harder to make than a mod itself.. hehehe)... though some modders have already made a few TSL specific tutorials, there will probably much more here in the future... Until then, feel free to post your questions if you run into a snag. Often times, those posts are used as a focus for tutorials to be made in the first place
Darkkender
^^^^^^^^^^^^ What he said. Also keep in mind many of the veterans were just as fresh as yourself this time last year. So if You see a tutorial that can be written better or brought current for TSL and you think you can do it go for it.
OZGOD
No worries, it wasn't a criticism of anything, just an observation. I'll keep plugging away.
