I'd almost go with a more pinkish / pale look... (hints of purple can help with the shading)...

Do a Google image search and you can find dozens of images where his face has a more pasty flesh tone...

Other than that, it's looking great

it looks great, i think this will be a really good head reskin because there is a very good oppurtunity to make the darkside transitions look very good, since in episode 3 you see the DS transtitions throughout the movie.

I started over with a different head model. I had been using one of the male player heads, but I decided to switch over to an NPC head.

Here are some shots with the portraits I am using.

I think I might have added a bit too much purple into the darkside face, but it does look awfully close to the color of the portrait.

Good call on using Grenn/Davik's head instead. My suggestions:

The Grenn head is much stronger looking than Palpatines so a few ways of reducing that might be:

-if you can give him more of a 'bum-chin' it'd soften the jaw line

-if you could do something with the texture (or the model I guess) to make the nose seem smaller it'd help.

Also, if you can adjust the lips on the LS model so it looks like he has the half-frown it'd help, as the grenn model has a Patrick Stewart-esque half-grin - he always looks a little pleased by default, whereas Palpatine usually looks... not.

That's all I've got for now. It's looking good.
