leetdancer
Please excuse me for asking such silly question. Im not a modder, so dont quite understand everything ya all talk about Im just curious about how far TSL can be modded. Is it just basically changing models/clothes and items and such. Or could the entire storyline and places be changed to point its nothing like original game if person had the skill?
T7nowhere
IF you wanted to make a completely new story line For TSL, that is possible. A TON of work but possible if your fine with reuseing exsisting area maps. New area maps are not yet possible.
Jeff
If you want to learn more about what can be modded and such, I would reccomend reading the 'Do you want to mod KotOR? Then start here. Mod Tutorials' thread at the top of this page. It is very helpful if you want to learn about modding.

Jeff
With all the tools and huge mods people have made, anything is possible for modding (well almost anything). It is a long way away from us at best though...
Darth_Tratious
Originally posted by T7nowhere New area maps are not yet possible. its probably possable but i don't think modders try hard enough. you would have to write scripts and design the whole world out i don't think many modders have the patience but probably most of all time to do all that.but i could be wrong. Jeff
Originally posted by Darth_Tratious its probably possable but i don't think modders try hard enough. Well, I don't know if you meant offense by this or not, but the people of this community should be mighty grateful that the modders do put in as much time and effort as they do. This is not their job, you know, it's a hobby, and as much as I would trade going to school for this, I can't. Yes, I'm sure that if this was a job for people, then we would already know how to make new area maps. So be grateful that people make these programs that we use for modding and that people spend their free time to make these awesome mods.

Ranins Hull
Then, why don't you make a new area? yes, please enlighten us as to why you don't do this yourself. lack of skill perhaps? or is time a problem? anyways........[force persuade] you want to do this
Mono_Giganto
I personally think the modders here try very hard to do what they do... Try telling svosh or T7 that they didn't try hard enough on their models....

[scotty's Accent] Laddie... you care to rephrase that? [/scotty's Accent] Originally posted by Darth_Tratious you would have to write scripts and design the whole world out Actually the hardest part is writing down what things you want the PC to do when on your world (quests), then you have to come up with NPC templates appearance and such, and the drafts of their dialogues all before you type a single script or mess with your first game file. Originally posted by Darth_Tratious i don't think many modders have the patience but probably most of all time to do all that. but i could be wrong. You are correct, making a new area requires tons of patience, but to do what you are talking about also requires one more thing... a map making program. Without this tool no modder can make a totally new area, we are thusly restricted to re-arranging pre-existing game modules to simulate a new area... nothing more can be done. Fred Tetra is attempting one, but he is required to make it from scratch... and also having to figure out every little file the module contains along the way will take some time to do so. Fred also has a big red "S" on his chest, I'm sure of it!

If you've never modded I'd watch those types of statements bud You could really piss someone off really quick saying stuff like that Those simple "mods" that we make are 2 hrs to 2 days to make Remodding the entire game would take approximately 1-2 years of a team of modders working 40+ hrs to do it. Those tools that you can download for FREE to do your own mods are not made by LucasArts, LucasProductions, SkyWalker Ranch. They are made by my fellow modders out there. The great Fred Tetra who without him most of what we do would be almost impossible, TK102 for about the best SGE there is out there any game period and others which write the tools we use (they will not release the Developer Tools). Fred alone has amassed a 2nd career in just keeping KOTORtool up to date. The time would be so great it would be next to impossible considering we do this stuff after a hard ass days work. So we are not lazy or need to work any harder. I GUARANTEE that you'll never find forums out there with better modders or more helpful moderators keeping peace (and ours here really do ) If you play nice and need help the really good modders out there will only increase your skills with their advice and help. You in turn should help others I believe :
Master Leffe
Why don't we give you modders a national (ok, not that big) holiday? Baloons, lightsabers, TIE fighters, maybe a few Sith Lords... Come on, it'd be fun! We can have all the creepy creations slaughter us all! (lol, im kidding. Great job to all u modders)
