Ranins Hull
ok. sorry bout the last thread. (hangs head in shame) but, i'm gonna give this another try. i got all my files(utc, tga's mdl and mdx) extracted, created a custom color and in-game icon. then i hex edited the mdl file to make it use my custom color. then i changed the tag, template ResRef, and the model variation to my custom number(36), gave it a new description, gave it a new name, and added some bonus stuff to the properties. then i changed all the file names to: g_w_lghtsbr36.uti w_lghtsbr_036.mdx w_lghtsbr_036.mdl iw_Lghtsbr_036.tga w_lsaberhull02.tga w_lsaberhull02.txi put them in game with kmm, loaded my savegame in kotor2 typed in the code to get my saber. went in the equip screen and clicked on the icon for my saber and the game froze and crashed! went back to the hex editor and changed all the w_Lghtsbr_001 lines to w_Lghtsbr_036 and went back to the game and the same thing happened! someone please help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ChAiNz.2da
Did you edit the upcrystals.2da with your new entries? Also, since it's a new color, did you create a saber crystal uti? Make doubly sure that the crystal uti's and the hilt uti's are spelled correctly (in the .2da).
cchargin
Hello, When you are working on mods you should always start clean. - Empty out your override folder (don't remove the files put there by the patch though). - Start a new game to test your mod with. Using save games can lead to wierd problems that you can't reproduce. Now if there are troubles here is how I troubleshoot... -Start fresh. Re-extract the files and put them in a brand new empty folder. -Change 1 file at a time. -Make your mod replace a stock item. Once you are sure it works as a stock item replacement THEN start changing names. I would also recommend that you try MDLOps renamer function to change texture names instead of hex editing. Don't think this is your problem. Having or not having a crystal for the saber only matters during upgrading. I think you might have messed up your mdl file... somehow.. (because that's what can cause a crash after equipping). What hex editor are you using? Try re-exporting the original mdl from the game and using cchargin's tool for renaming. Have you tried Mdlops renamer as well? And just for heck of it, where exactly are all your saber files located? (as in what directory?)

Ranins Hull
ok. i tried what achillis suggested in his email, it still won't work for some reason? oh well i'll just start over and see what happens now i've got a problem with a Darth Ranis saber i'm making to go with the other saber and two robes i plan on releasing in a pack. the only problem is when i equip my Darth Ranis saber in my main hand and a red saber in my off hand the red saber gets the Darth Ranis custom color? Ranins Hull
allright, i re-extractedthe files for the light side saber, and it works but it won't use my custom blade color. still having the problem with the darkside saber thoe.
Darkkender
Ok in the original lightsaber mdl file what was the lightsaber color entry the w_lsaber***01 or whatever? Usually it is 3 letters following the lsaber portion not 4. If you hex edit or use the mdlops replacer function and your color has one more character in it than is there it won't work proper. I discovered this early on with custom sabers & saber colors. Try renaming your color texture to w_lsaberhul02.tga & txi and change the model to reflect 1 less l and this may be the fix you need. Ranins Hull
when i hex edited i changed _lsabrered01 to w_lsabrehul02. then i named my texture w_lsabrehul02.tga and made a text file with the "special instructions" (blending additive1 bla bla bla) and named it w_lsabrehul02.txi
