Emperor Devon
Yes, it's worth it. On the PC version you have cheats, mods, and better graphics. As well as some extra content for the PC version of KOTOR.

In my (geek) opinion, modding is even funnier (and more time consuming) than playing the game
Icedrake
I think that the PC version is absolutely worth it. I've spent more time modding than I did playing through the game (just haven't come up with anything worth posting yet)! As far as XBox vs. PC goes ... I've played both KOTOR and TSL on both and the PC version looks a lot better and runs a little cleaner (and I don't have a massive gaming rig with an expensive video adapter either (still cost a lot more than an Xbox but I already had it). DaxJorell
I have both versions (Xbox and PC) of both KOTOR games and in some ways... TSL runs better on the XBox than the PC version. In addition, if you have a modded XBox, you can use about 98% of the mods that are available -- Including complex scripting mods like the "Handmaiden for Female Players" mod. The only ones you can't use are ones that add new player heads that include hacked models because the XBox and PC model format is incompatible with one another. Oddly enough, lightsaber replacement models work, however (at least on mine). Of course, a 1999-era PC (the XBox) is no match, visual or performance-wise, for a top of the line PC like an AMD64 rig with a good GPU (like I have). Still... I like the way the XBox versions feel (with the mods installed) since you're not so worried about FPS since everything is locked at 30 FPS and can concentrate on playing the game rather than tweaking drivers, .ini files and other tedious things in my opinion. So, I think it is a toss-up between what you value in terms of how you like to play games: Top of the line performance and visuals while sitting in front of a keyboard, mouse and monitor for hours on end... Or, slightly less visuals and slower performance... That isn't that bad in my opinion... While lounging in front of a 40" HDTV on your couch. Aurelius
Yea. I bought the PC versions for modding too. I play the games on XBOX more, and you can use the PC versions for the modding and just FTP into the XBOX. Most things work, but youll find that not all models work well with the XBOX version games. But it is worth getting the PC games for modding purposes. The games arent that expensive anyway, like $20 new on ebay or other places. Theres things you just cant do with only the XBOX versions. Its a good idea. Just go for it!

Modding an XBox can be done a number of ways. Just Google the net for various (re)sources of info. I will say regardless of what method is used... If you are not comfortable with computers beyond just using them to play games and do other tasks, I would not recommend modding an XBox because you can physically kill it if you don't know what you are doing and modding it automatically voids the warranty and that means you can't just ask MS for a new one. SIDE NOTE: As to the legality of modding an XBox, it all depends on the country you reside in... Although, officially, MS doesn't openly support it for obvious reasons. FTP means File Transfer Protocol. This just means accessing a modded XBox like you would any file server on the web in order to gain access to its contents... Like game files and other things one normally alters whenever you play and mod a PC game.

Do u like take the Xbox modded chips and plug it to a computer outlet and download **** from their? i'm goggle searching right now to see what i can find!!! you have to buy a mod chip install: the mod chip sits on top of the BIOS of the XBOX or some chips screw down, others you have to solder them (if you open your XBOX you void the warranty, so you have to be willing to risk) the mod chip makes the XBOX open source (Microsoft hates this) then you install a bigger hard drive because the XBOX only comes with like 6GB hard drive (weak). you can even set partitioning on the hard drive C drive is XBOX system files D drive is the DVD drive E drive is the 1st possible partition with saved game files X Y and Z drives are XBOX swap drives I made a 2nd partition to the XBOX on drive F My KOTOR and TSL games are on F drive then FTP into the XBOX just like a computer and make the Override folder on F:\Games\whatever you want to call the game file (I called mine KOTOR I and KOTOR II) its easy
Jeraldo27
Do u know how much they cost? i looked online but if i bought one i would have to send it to someone to hack into it or i could do it myself!!
The Source
I also bought the XBox versions of KOTOR I & II, for I was impatient. After the PC versions came out, I bought them right away. I never tried a modded XBox, but I would becareful. I read some horrible things about modding the XBox. Someone lost the whole system for some technical reason caused by the mod chip. Maybe someone here knows how to mod the XBox without damaging it.
DaxJorell
You don't have to use a Mod Chip to mod an Xbox. You can do what is called a softmod as well. They use a game exploit to load a new BIOS into the box and when they reboot the XBox is essentially the same as a modded XBox with a chip, except without the chip. However, as MacLeod Corp said, this is where people probably screw up their boxes when they do a softmod. I know people who have done the softmod the correct way and it is much cheaper (if it goes right) than buying a chip because all you need are a few items you can either make or buy vs. the cost of a mod chip itself. cate_kroft
Just thought I'd add my two quaters (my opinions worth more and just a couple of cents!). . . I bought the Xbox versions of the games first and then I bought the PC versions purely for fact of modding them. (I HAD to have a blonde PC in my KotOR 1 games and modding was the only way.) I've got a highend super computer (built it my self and it's got awesome blue bubble lights and a changing color light on the front of the tower and.... ooops... sorry.) In my artistic opinion, the Xbox version has the better graphics and in my geek opinion the Xbox runs faster/smoother. (I always loved the fountains on Manaan in the Xbox version of KotOR 1 and was VERY dissapointed at how they looked in the PC version) Anywho, you can now buy KotOR 1 for just $20 about anywhere and if you buy it direct from LucasArts you can get an awesome lightsaber letter opener! (That's what I did.) KotOR 2 is still around $50 unless you do like me and find somebody on eBay willing to get rid of theirs for under $20... I don't mess with modding my Xbox. I just stick with upgrading my computer. Besides, I have a PS2, a GC, and a GBA as well so I don't have time/money to mod my Xbox.

I disagree. Although I do not have the games for Xbox, so I couldn't actually know, it has been my experience that PC games run smoother than console games. It must vary with different computers. Well, in this case, the Xbox runs smoother for KotOR 1 at least. I mean if you have all of the high quality specs checked like they are on the Xbox. (And it's not my computer since it's as high end as possible.) You should get an Xbox. I'm glad I did! If there is a game I love on console I'll buy it for PC and vise-versa. Console games usually run smoother. (I can't think of any games right now that would be an exception.)
DaxJorell
Not to go completely off topic... But the fact console games run smoother isn't a mystery since there is ONE set of hardware game designers know they will be working with... Unlike the infinite combination of PC hardware. I laugh when I see all this anti-console fervor from PC geeks (no offense) who feel their virtual man/woman hood is being threatend because consoles are bringing gaming to the masses -- Something that used to be reserved for the "elite" and "special" people who were into PC games originally. The reason I laugh is that if these people really knew what they were talking about they'd know that PC innovation in both hardware and software (like pixel shaders; vertex shaders; bumpmapping, etc.) is what drives console hardware. It always has. So, in other words, PC games, hardware and software will aways... ALWAYS... Come first and be superior. So what's the big deal? Besides. You want the best of both worlds? Hook that AMD 64 rig with SLI 6800s up to a HDTV, get a wireless keyboard and mouse and viola! You have the ultimate "console" system that not even the next-gen XBox360 or PS3 can top
