Jedi Academy models

Howdy all, I figured out a way to get the lightsaber hilts from Jedi Academy and get them into TSL (yes I overcame my poverty level and bought TSL) however while i can figure that out, I don't have photoshop to convert the textures. If anyone would want to join in on the fun and help out with the textures I'd really appreciate it.

Well, firstly we need to clear some things up :D...

1. Are your ported over models the original (in-game) lightsaber hilt models from Jedi Academy, or are they mods for Jedi Academy?

1.1. If they are the original files, than it is illegal to port them over from JA to TSL, plain and simple.

1.2. If they are mods than you will need the permission of the original author to release them for download, but if you aren't going to release them than you're fine and if you made them then you're all set :)

umm I think that covers everything,

Mav

If you distribute them as mods, yes. If you own both games and are porting them for your own personal use, no.

It used to be that you could provide instructions to help others who wanted to make similar, personal use mods. However in the interest of avoiding scrutiny, it seems that even that is verboten now.

Well then, I guess its a good thing that A) I own both games. B) I haven't shared the models with anyone. and C) I didn't post how I did it. I think I'll drop this issue and go hide now.

Certainly! :D

As Achilles stated above, it is just the porting of any models from other games that we cannot discuss...

Oh thank god! I spent 3 days making a complete set of "training" sabers in each color and style for a little mod idea I have. I didn't make them available for download because I don't think anyone would be very interested in them. They don't require the lightsaber proficiency, they won't block blaster bolts, and they don't do as much damage as a normal lightsaber.

I don't know about skill, I just follow the great tutorials provided by T7Nowhere and others and it all works out by some mysterious magic.

I have ADD, and I make sabers. I often drag things out so I'm reluctant to finish, but I push through it. It sometimes helps if you're working in furtherance of another goal. I'm making a lightsaber pack right now. I have a lot of them finished, but I keep adding to the total. Eventually, I'll get bored and release what I have. It also helps if you finish a really massive project, like a starship, then move to lightsabers. I can throw together a decent lightsaber in a couple of hours. And the obsessive attention to detail that accompanies ADD forces skill on you.

Hey man listen up I think I thought of a way around this for ya :D

How about you use that custom modded hilts package "something 1.5" (can't remember the something part)???

It had/has like 15 or more KILLER models in it and those you could use cause they would be mods :D :D

ooh and BTW if you need that mod PM me and I'll send it to you. :D

Ok! After much digging I found the saber pack for Jedi Academy. It just so happens that there is an extremely nice version of Dooku's saber from attack of the clones in it. Hopefully the author will give me permission to port.

Well T7's criticism aside, it seems at least 1 person wants this saber pack, and that's good enough for me.

Hmm, Criticism.

I suppose I was beiNg critical, but its justified. Well in my mind atleast. But I suppose we all dO what we want to do, if were capable.

Learning to port a model is much easyer than learning to build one and as long as the person porting the model gets the original authors permission tO port then its perfectly acceptaBle.

The texture needs major work and I've got to get the blade to actually sit on the hilt but I think it's going well.

That's a Great idea, Curs0r. JKA has a very large collection of cool hilts, unlike Kotor where every jedi player gets the same stupid saber.

Replacing those standard hilts would really be a change. ^^!

The Nemesis saber looks really good man :D Can't wait to use it.

I'd caution you on one thing though. Make sure to PM either T7 or ChAiNz and check to see what numbers are still free for use to be compatible with their Ultimate Saber Pack as I'm sure that suckers downloads will go through the roof :D

As long as the number doesn't go over #99, users wil be able to edit their own .2da pretty easily. Just as a reminder, the .2da I built doesn't guarantee all the mods listed will work together, just that the .2da will be safe to overwrite if you happen to have some of those mods already installed. Overall compatibility would've required me to edit .uti's and include them in the mod (after permission)... which would've been way to much of an undertaking as well as built up file size uneccesarily. :)

But as far as adding it to the USM's compatibility .2da ... the deadline's passed ;)

Aplogies for the semi-off topic "hijack"... saber looks great Curs0r
