Kurgan
Yep, the (in)famous Meatgrinder server is still around, and faster and better than ever. There is no "honor BS" to be found here! Full realistic saber damage, default force mana regentime, what more could you ask for? Featuring OJP (Open Jedi Project) improvements to the basic game (many not yet available to the public) it's pure CTF, Siege, FFA, even Holocron, Jedi Master and CTY (yes, CTY!) at your fingertips. Some gametypes aren't used unless requested, so if you don't see what you want, feel free to ask and I'll get something going we can all enjoy. JA Bonuspack maps and Siege Destroyer supported (but not in rotation unless called for). The 26 man fast server is up 24/7 at the following IP: 67.15.13.128:29070 Please come visit and get some fragging in. If there's any problems with the server whatsoever contact me or RazorAce and we'll fix it if possible. And yes, I'm open to constructive criticism and feedback. The server restarts at 4am every morning, but if there's some reason it needs to be restarted (crashed, major bug) please contact me ASAP. Thanks and hope to see you there! PS: You can check the server status and settings anytime by visiting the following link I had posted about this earlier, but the thread was lost in the big forums blackhole problem the other day. Don't get discouraged, you'll learn CTF and get better. We were all there once. We play lots of CTF and Siege (but also Jedi Master and other modes on request) so lots of opportunities to train! Kurgan
Originally posted by VikingLarz What is Jedi Master mode? And I think im pretty decent at siege. It's a mode ("JM" for short) that RazorAce ported over from Jedi Outcast (just like CTY and Holocron). Basically it's a game of "tag." There is one lightsaber spawned in the map as a pickup item. Everyone starts with no Force (just level 1 Jump) and just a pistol and fists. You can pickup weapons and such like in normal FFA... but once you grab the lightsaber, everything changes! Now the Jedi is the one who can score points by killing the non-Jedi. They try to kill him to grab it. It can be quite fun with a lot of people. The Jedi is super powerful (has every Force ability except for Drain and Absorb), has extra health and fast Force regeneration. Long as I'm at it, I'll explain the other modes: Holocron FFA = Just like normal FFA, except everyone starts with just Level 1 Force Jump. You acquire other powers by grabbing floating "holocron" cubes. Each one grants you max level of that power. You can only carry 3 (server option) at a time. Grab a fourth one and you drop one you were carrying to make room. CTY = Capture the Ysalamiri. Just like CTF (Capture the Flag) except that the Flags have Ysalamiri branches on them. These creatures were introduced in the Expanded Universe (specifically Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn) and they somehow "push back the Force." Basically what this means is the Flag Carriers have a big colored bubble around them while holding the flag that prevents them from using ANY Force, even rolls! (though you can still do Saber special moves/katas just fine), but they also can't have Force powers used on them. It's supposed to be a strategic element wherein you have to escort your carrier to safety, but I think few people have gotten very good at it yet. As to the popularity of the server, it depends. During high traffic times (evenings and weekends), it's often packed (especially on Siege or CTF). Other times you'll find only a handfull of people there. But there's always somebody around to play...
riceplant
I have a question. Everyone knows we don't like this honour stuff, but where do you draw the line? I mean, I personally would not think twice anout cutting someone down just because they had a non-saber weapon equipped, but would probably not kill someone with the chat window open. Of course, that's just me, and I wouldn't complain if someone killed me while typing (well maybe just "Cheap shot!").

Of course, that's just me, and I wouldn't complain if someone killed me while typing (well maybe just "Cheap shot!"). On my server, here's how it breaks down: Killing somebody while their chat box is open = FAIR Killing somebody while their saber is down = FAIR Killing somebody that went to the bathroom or whatever and is just standing there not moving = FAIR Using or not using any kind of "gestures" (bowing, taunts, turning saber on, etc) before a duel (ie: you can't expect somebody to bow before a duel just because you do) = FAIR Using whatever powers and weapons you have at your disposal to win = FAIR If it's somehow FFA and you Challenge somebody to a duel, they are not required to accept. Likewise waiting in line for a duel does not give you any special privilges. If you're attacked and killed, it's perfectly fair. "Spamming" (using the same weapon or power over and over to get lots of kills) = FAIR "Camping" an area, weapon or powerup, even a re-spawn point. = FAIR Something might be "cheap" but still allowed. The "perpetrator" is not punished for his actions by the admin, I mean. --------------------------- That about covers "honorz." If a person wants to join my server and follow some "code "they are free to do so. They just can't expect me or anyone else on the server to also follow it. Typically these people either adapt to the atmosphere of the server, or they leave pretty quickly when it becomes obvious their "code" isn't the norm. Now there are other "issues" that people are annoyed with, I'll cover those here... My server has "unrestricted" but here are a few issues... too complicated to fill in in any MOTD. 1) Using Killtrackers to fill the chat with annoying "Haha, you are the 2,525th noob I have pwn3d today! I have pwn3d you 24 times, noob, lol!!" is extremely annoying, so I tell people to put them into "Silent" mode right off the bat. If they ignore me and keep doing it for awhile and it's not just me and them I'll kick 'em just to show I was serious. It's also goofy because people use these in games like CTF or Siege where individual kills have little to no meaning. The person can just use it in silent and still keep track of their personal progress or play their mp3 list if they wish. 2) People who refuse to play the game (in a team game) by just standing there and not doing anything, or just standing there chatting will get warned. If they refuse to spectate for their chat-fest, they'll get a kick eventually. If I had a "move to spectator" feature, I'd use it on these guys. It's no big deal if it's a FFA or JM or Holocron. They can just lose for all I care. But if it's a team game, it's not fair to everyone else if they hold up a slot and let everyone down by not participating. They can chat in spectator... 3) People who spam the chat with racial slurs and the like. I'm talking really abusive people here, not just the occasional swear or trash talk. These guys who come on just to be foul mouthed to annoy people get warned, and then kicked. Very very few of these people around, so rarely need to worry about it. Typically sore losers will spew their crap and then leave, when it's clear their taunts aren't having the desired effect. 4) Abusing game exploits to try to "ruin" the game flow. I'm talking about people being "Traitors" on one team to let the enemy team into their base on purpose and not fighting them. Getting in their teammates way on purpose to hinder them a lot, or taking the flag or Siege captureable and then hiding with it, with no intention of capturing, in order to "sit out" the game and ruin it. These have been minimized thanks to OJP's exploit fixes, but they still sometimes occur. I'll first give them the benefit of the doubt and ask if it was an accident. A warning may be in order. If it's blatant and keeps occuring they're out. I do NOT consider saber combos or using the weapons in the game to counter other weapons or powers to be "exploits" of course. Rocket Jumping and Strafe Running are common in FPS games and not a problem. Things I don't care about: TK Spammers are NOT a problem, because I have Friendly Fire turned off (and we also have the "Auto Kick TK Spammers" cvar if it were on). Suicide Spamming is NOT a problem for the "Auto Kick Suicide Spammers" cvar. And if somebody wants to do that in FFA, they'll just lose, no big deal. People switching teams to try to unbalance the game or join the winning team at the last moment is pointless, because the Team Auto Balancer scans every few seconds and automatically moves people. It's annoying sometimes, but it keeps the game fair. It can also be set to give the losing team a few extra people (within reason). It also balances with bots so people can't whine that "my whole team is bots!!! NO fair!!" People whining about game balance or "cheapness" or wanting the settings changed (in an unreasonable way) while annoying, won't get kicked because I can reason with them, argue with them or just say "sorry, that's just how it is." No action needed. Some servers have gotten really pissy about the Jawa skin in the past (due to false rumors that it somehow gained you advantages in hit detection or something). The remaining gripe people have is that in team games you're always brown, regardless of team, so you have to pay attention to the team overlay/beacon/name color/force seeing color/saber color to see what team they are really on. This isn't a problem for me on my server because I have the Jawa MP mod installed. Anyone else who has this one or a similar mod will see Red & Blue Jawas in CTF/TFFA, etc. That's how I treat it. For the most part I very rarely have any problems. There is like 1 in 100 or so people that decides he wants to be a jerk and piss people off. Usually I laugh off such people and they give up. Occasionally they will be kicked. I banned one guy for 2-3 weeks, that was the worst that ever occured. He basically used every exploit he knew to try to screw up Siege every chance he got, and then played innocent after being warned repeatedly. I did remove him from the ban list after the 2-3 weeks, and he never came back. I will try to reason with Whiners at first. If it's clear they just want to talk to hear themselves talk I'll laugh them off. If they continue to whine, I'll just ignore them and see how that works. Usually they take the hint and give up. I have had a few people accuse others of "cheating." If this occurs I demand proof that they are "cheating." If no proof can be furnished, I treat it as whining (though I keep an eye out just in case). I don't assume the person is guilty, like some server admins do. Crow_Nest
Hey kurgan, is the Siege Destroyer still in the maplist? I'd kinda like to play that map again on your server. And its been sometime since i piloted a starfighter.
razorace
I think it's installed but it's not on the mapcycle. I imagine we can add it back in if people want it. On a related note, I'm almost done doing TABBot routes for all of the bonus and basejka maps (other than siege_destroyer). Hopefully this will make people less wary about using TABBots. Kurgan
I've edited the map cycles for convenience, here's how it breaks down now (and yes, Razor I saved a backup copy on my hard drive just in case revisions are needed!): ---------------------------------- (Map Cycle begins): Jedi Master (FFA2) Jedi Master (FFA1) Siege Korriban Siege Hoth Siege Desert CTF1 CTF2 CTF3 CTF4 CTF5 (repeat) ---------------------------------- However I've also put together the following cycles I can vstr to at any time (this list subject to change, this is just what's currently on the plate): ---------------------------------- Jedi Master (FFA3) Jedi Master (FFA4) Jedi Master (FFA5) (cycles back to Siege Korriban) ---------------------------------- Siege Destroyer (cycles back to Siege Korriban) ---------------------------------- Holocron (FFA1) Holocron (FFA2) Holocron (FFA3) Holocron (FFA4) Holocron (FFA5) (cycles back to CTF1) ---------------------------------- (JA Bonus Pack Maps cycle) FFA Bonus1 FFA Bonus2 FFA Bonus3 FFA Bonus4 Duel Bonus1 CTF Bonus1 (cycles back to CTF) ---------------------------------- (this is straight Free For All) FFA1 FFA2 FFA3 FFA4 FFA5 (cycles back to CTF) ---------------------------------- PowerDuel (Duel3) PowerDuel (Duel6) PowerDuel (Duel8) PowerDuel (Duel4) (repeat) ---------------------------------- CoOp T1_Sour T1_Fatal T1_Rail Vjun1 T3Rift (repeat) ---------------------------------- CoOp (issues with MP, so very buggy) T1_Danger Hoth2 Hoth3 (then cycles to CoOp cycle above) ---------------------------------- We've been using the team based modes so much because they are popular and required a lot of testing, but we can do other stuff on request and when new stuff needs to be tested extensively. And yes, those bot fixes will be a welcome blessing. The poor TAB Bots are getting bad press as a result of a few goofs in the routing/navigation. Kurgan
Well I have over 300 megs of screenshots, so I don't really have time at the moment to post the best ones with thumbnails, but I do have some demos that are kinda fun. If I find anymore good ones I have sitting around on my drive (created by me) I'll post them up when I can... Some close CTF games and even Fluffy the Rancor doing a funny dance! Plus a duel, and some other stuff. And yes, I'm using fake names in a few of those games. "Teh Jawa" is me. =) CTF Sudden Death Duel X Fluffy the Rancor Those crazy Jawas! Snatching victory from the jaws of defeat... (other team scored 6 points early on in the match seemingly without effort, but your's truly's team makes a comeback!) To view these properly you may need to install the client side portion of OJP Basic Mod (which can be downloaded from http://ojp.jediknight.net Post any bugs you find with this mod on the OJP forums (part of LucasForums.com)! razorace
I know about the fake names and pings. I help create that code. I have enough experience with it that I can tell the bot names from the rest of the players. Most of the time I come online to test stuff, there's always seems to be a lot of players on the server (enough to not have any bots on there). I think bot_minplayers is set to 8.
