Katarn07
The DVD boxset was released a couple days ago. I never got into watching it because (A) I missed the miniseries when it originally aired on Sci Fi and (B) it was on the same time as Enterprise and © I didn't know how to work my DVD/ VCR recorder dealie at the time. Still don't truth be told, but that's beside the point. We didn't get it at work sadly, but we did have the miniseries so I decided to give it a try and I gotta admit it was pretty cool. I've heard mostly good things about the show so plan on getting the boxset eventually. Anyone else watch it? What do you think? I will comment on how little I care for some characters, but I get the feeling they'll grow on me. And as for the Cylon? Forget the hot women as enemies, I wanna see more of those chrome robots as seen in the original series!
lassev
I would have preferred a little less psychology (mental unstability) in the plot. It had certainly other elements with the low-tech and physics to make it stand out. But that being said, it was very refreshing and unique in many ways. (Music wasn't often that great, though.) El Sitherino
It was alright, I mostly kept watching for Grace Park though. Girlie is all kinds of hot.

El Sitherino
Grace Park...she's Number Six right? To be honest I never really paid attention to what was said when she was on screen. >_>, but no, she was Boomer. What's her name was number 6. Tricia Helfer. Grace Park is the asian chick. Boomer is pretty cute, although she starts to lose that cuteness when half the time she's either bleeding or crying...

Katarn07
As mentioned elsewhere, I bought it and have watched three episodes in addition to the miniseries. I take back what I said about not caring for the characters. I do now and that was pretty fast. It took me forever to even like anyone from Enterprise. The stories are all connected and very dramatic at times. The action and realism are great. I love the near muted effects in space. Brilliant idea. I like the camera work and how it's almost like a documentary; that's new to me for a TV show though I'm sure it's been done plenty of times. As for the women on the show, I think Specialist Cally is the hottest.
swphreak
I enjoy the series. Not having seen the original, I guess I don't have anything to compare it to so it's all good. 3 words baby: Galactica vs Pegasus
toms
I'm about a third of the way through season 2 and its starting to annoy me. The miniseries was ok. Series One was pretty awesome, although it could be a little slow at times, and some of the halucenation bits got a bit annoying. the ending was awesome though. Series Two annoyed me from the start by not really doing a decent conclusion to the end of series one. But then about episode 3 or 4 it got good again. But now the was its gone totally religious fundamentalist, everyone has thrown common sense and logic out the window and its just bogged down in its own confusion is starting to really annoy me. If baltar and the 7of9 have another bloody discussion about the baby i'm going to shoot someone. If it wasn't for liking starbuck, boomer(2) and i'd have given up on the whole thing. Its weord that when it started it made a fuss of not being like the original and having them get sidetracked every 5 minutes by casino planets rather tan running for their lives from the cylons. But now the cylons seem totally forgotten, they have been hanging around cobol with no problems for months now, there are sports teams running around caprica under the cylon's noses, and they are so absorbed in the religious rubbish that the flight has been totally forgotten. I hope it gets better again soon!!!
Katarn07
I wouldn't bother bumping this if toms didn't post those comments. I completely disagree with pretty much everything said. I think the direction the show is going in is great. I hated it in Xena when they introduced that whole Dayhawk plot and what not, but merely because it conflicted with Greek Mythology. This is different. They can do what ever the crap they want with the Lords of Kobol and the monotheistic religion the Cylons have. I've watched the first 6 episodes, need 4 to go, but I am sure the Cylons will return in full force. It's not like they're gone all together. There are plenty on Kobol to keep the action going I think. And I can't believe how great all the characters are and how they're all coming back together. When I first saw the miniseries, I had no idea that Helo would ever be seen again! Adama rejoining with the fleet opens the door for a lot more stories. What's to become of Chief Tyrol and the new Boomer? Adama has questions he wants answered as well and Baltar (who now seems to have gotten some balls after shooting Crashdown) will wanna know more about the Cylon agents the other Boomer spoke of (somehow I get the feeling that was a lie....) . Can't wait for the rest of season
toms
Its got bucket loads of plot holes by now though. Adama and the President used to be really cool characters, but now they just keep making decisions that would be insane based ont he information they have. (those decisions turn out ok of course, as the plot has to go on..) The president has turned into some form of evangelical nutter, and adama is veering wildly between opposing everything she says, to suddenly going "oh waht the hell" and rejoining her. FOR NO REASON!! Boy that bugged me. If Gaius actually starts acting sensibly and we get a little less focus on his weird "hallucinations" then things might improve as well. Its still a good show (i love most of the smaller characters), and hopefully its just going through a lull, I'm sure it will pick up again soon. I just have the Xena episode to face... but after watching the first five minutes I decided it looked like it was gonna be a very annoying, predicatable episode and stopped watching it. Maybe i'll watch it tonight... hopefully my initial impression was wrong.
matt--
...he didn't rejoin her for no reason. He "put the family back together again." There's more to his motives than a plot device... Also, I love how bat****-freakin' loco Vice President/Only scientist Gaius Baltar is, and I hope his character remains the same.
toms
But he's supposed to be this great, smart leader. He's not like Tigh, he's supposed to make rational decisions. He makes the (theoretically) very hard decision to remove her from office due to her crazy behaviour. Even after being shot, his son turning against his decision and Tigh making a mess of the whole situation he still thinks Roslin is crazy and he made the right decision. The FOR NO REASON he suddenly thinks, know what.. maybe she's right. (or maybe: Know what, who cares if she's right) goes off leaving the fleet alone in a dangerous location and wanders around in the rain making up with her and his son. Sure if he had had some indication she was really having prophecies, or if he'd waited to see what she found. Or even if he decided the split in the fleet was causing too many problems and he'd endangered democracy. But none of that happened, he just changed his mind. Gaius develops a machine that tells him who cylons are, then decides he will be safer if he says no-one is a cylon (you know, the guys trying to destroy the fleet he is on) and lets them wander around the fleet ok. Because that will make him safer. Not! Then he decides he DOES want to know who they are so he threatens Boomer1 to find out there are 8... but doesn't ask their names. Even though he has a machine that works. ??? But ok, he's supposed to be a bit flakey so i'll let that slide. But it seems like he's spent the whole of the first 6 or so episodes of this series going on and on about that damn baby and ended up no further forward than what we already knew at the end of Series One. Its just getting annoying. If it wasn't for the cool sub-plots and the fact I like most of the "grunts" characters I'd have given up. Hopefully Its going somewhere with all the religious stuff, and reasonably quickly.
Katarn07
Adama needs to rejoin the fleet. Neither he nor Roslin could survive without all the ships together. They wouldn't have enough supplies (remember the Gideon Massacre? Obviously force didn't get what the Galactica needed to keep running) and would either slowly die drifiting aimlessly through space or the Cylons could come and easily wipe the divided fleet out. Tigh ****ed things up and Adama did his best to pick up the pieces. He has to work with Roslin whether he agrees with her or not. Also, both Apollo and Starbuck were with Roslin. They're the best Viper pilots the fleet has to offer, not to mention his children (err, Starbuck isn't his daughter in a literal sense but they have a father/ daughter relationship). And as for Gaius, I think him going nearly insane is interesting. He doesn't want to destroy the fleet nor does he care about Number Six anymore and he surely doesn't wanna help the Cylons. He's out for his own ass and now it looks like this baby. And of course the baby is Caprica Boomer's. Once I heard Six telling him about a baby, I realized it would be Boomer's. Starbuck finding her and Helo meant she'd return to the Galactica. And I do agree with you that the smaller characters are some of the best. Chief Tyrol is cool and I liked all of his deckcrew. Unfortunately, Socinus was stripped of his rank, Prosna was KIA, and Cally was thrown into the brig for killing Boomer. At least she'll be coming back although her character will most likely have changed now that she's not so innocent anymore.... The characters change through these events though is what is most interesting. They've all changed so much from the miniseries.
Katarn07
3 words baby: Galactica vs Pegasus Not having even finished season 1 when you said that, I didn't get what that meant. But now it makes perfect sense. Season 2.5 kicks off this Friday. Who else is excited? I rewatched my season 1 boxset and got season 2.0 as an Xmas gift which I also finished. I watched all the bonus stuff for the first time (not sure why I didn't watch at least the deleted scenes last time I watched it). Some of the scenes were so good I wish that they'd have integrated them into the episodes as a sort of director's cut thing. I hear they'll be doing that for Pegasus on the Season 2.5 boxset, but if it's just a more graphic assault on Caprica Sharon by Thorne, I don't think I wanna see it....
