The Doctor
I was just watching the extended version of LOTR, and realized that Bara-Dur is very similar to Bao-Dur. Did the devs of TSL run out of names and steal one from LOTR, or is it a coincidence? What do you think?
RobQel-Droma
I don't know. Personally, I don't think that a lot of things are coincidence, but then again it may just be a another name (Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon, Bao-Dur). Barad-Dur and Bao-Dur are very close. Hallucination
Bara-Dur? I don't remember that one. Is it a person or a place? Or something Gandalf muttered?
RobQel-Droma
Barad-Dur is Saurons fortress that gets rebuilt in the first movie. That is the place where you always see the eye of Sauron on top of a tower. It is the second tower along with Orthanc that is referred to in the second movie, The Two Towers. Hallucination
K thanx, I should read the series again.
El Sitherino
I think it might be a reference. Kind of like the skiff guards "Klatu, Baradda, Nikto" is a reference to "The Day the Earth Stood Still".
lukeiamyourdad
But why? What makes Bao-Dur like Barad-Dur outside of the sound of the name? I can't think of anything...
90SK
I'm drawing a blank as well. They have nothing in common, save some bizarre possible metaphors. I think this is just coincidence.
stoffe
But why? What makes Bao-Dur like Barad-Dur outside of the sound of the name? I can't think of anything... They are both bleak, dreary and have a glowing body part attached. Other than that, nothing. It's probably just a coincidence that the names sound similar. RedHawke
They are both bleak, dreary and have a glowing body part attached. Other than that, nothing. Makes sense, in an odd sort of way!
The Doctor
I just thought they sounded too similar to be a complete coincidence, I never thought their was any similar meaning between them.
