"I'll not deny that," Green said with a smile. "So what direction's the investigation headed now."

----------------

'Meg' frowned. "I can't make it very quickly, but I'll get there as soon as I can." She cut the connection and ran back to the other 'Megs'. "We need Teri."

Up at the police station, Green excused herself to answer her cell phone. She walked outside and put the phone to her ear. "This better be important."

"John wants Meg," was the answer. "We need you back."

Green/Meg/Teri winced. "Now's not a good time. Come on now... we all know there's one of you that looks enough like her to pull it off."

"But she's not as good at the voice."

"Then coach her before sending her out. I can't come."

"Alright," came the answer. "We'll do it."

"Thank you," Green said. She cut the connection and went back inside.

"Sorry," she told Palmer. "Kids. They're the reason I only work part-time."

Mike had planned to spend the rest of his day digging deeper for information about the mystery agent, but that was impossible now.

"Now we go question them." He said, getting up. He looked at Green and shook his head, but said nothing.

Mike drove directly to where the gang met. Driving in an unmarked car, he passed through without suspicion. He looked at Green, and her State Police uniform.

"Just....stay in the car."

He left the car and knocked on the door. He had spoken with John on several ocassions, and he knocked.

"I'm looking for John Dilan!" He said.

Green frowned, but did as she was told. She rolled down the window to see if she could hear what was said. "So much for something interesting... I sit in a car..."

While waiting for an answer, Mike's cell phone rang.

"Yeah?"

"Find any info on the FBI agent?" Asked Donnie.

Carefully Mike turned around and answered quietly.

"It's messed up. I dug in deeper, and there's no other credentials. It's just her name, rank, photograph. Everything else is classified, but I had someone hack in, it's empty. There's no info. Nothing, nada, zip. "

"Any connections."

"No, but I'm trying different things. Listen, Don, I know she offered to help, but don't trust her too much, man. Something about this stinks."

"I'll be careful. Talk to you later."

"All right. Bye."

They hung up, and Mike turned to the door and knocked again.

"C'mon now! I know he's in there!"

John hung up.

"Sir, a man outside wants to speak with you." John went up and looked out a window, he knew him, didn't trust him, but knew him.

"Yeah come in, and tell your friend in the car to come on in too."

Green came in cautiously. She wasn't sure how the gang would react to a state police uniform.

((Curt, keep in mind that, though this is the girl who's been coming to you as Meg, she doesn't look like Meg right now.))

"C'mon, Johnny. You know the news never reports all the facts. Besides the Slickers are gone, they haven't popped up anywhere else. So just tell me where you were between 5 and 10 this morning and I'll leave you alone."

Posted

"We could." Said Mike mildly. "But with answers that vague, we'd have no choice but to mark all of you as suspects and put stakeouts on you and this place. Effective immediately."

Posted

"All right, all right. No need to get forceful..."

He walked out, Green following behind him. When they got to the car, he took out his cell phone.

"You get all that Captain?"

"Yes." Said Logan's growly voice on the other end. "We'll keep an eye on them."

Mike hung up and grinned at Green. "Let's head back to the station."
