REDJOHNNYMIKE
I'm curious, does the Star Wars universe have a standard form of timekeeping, or different callendars for each empire/republic, and if so, what are some of the official holidays? (EU ones too I guess) I know that years are used in SW discussions (republic x years before other republic x years before the empire....) but I don't remember where they were mentioned in movies or official games. Hallucination
I doubt anyone has so little of a life that they'd make a calender for the Star Wars universe.
REDJOHNNYMIKE
I was just wondering if there was an official one straight from GL or something, I know I've heard holidays mentioned before, it was Earthday or Lifeday or something like that? So does the majority of the galaxy use our standard second/minute/hour/day/month/year setup, because if you think about the way our current callendar was derived it doesn't make sense when applied to SW? Unless there are a bunch of galactic emperors with the same names as all those greek gods and roman emperors (not sure exactly which are which). Emperor Devon
There is currently no system of time keeping for STAR WARS in the movies or EU.
lukeiamyourdad
No, not really, we don't know. What we do know is the "0" year, which is the Battle of Yavin. For example, 4000 years in the past usually means 4000 years BBY (Before Battle of Yavin).
REDJOHNNYMIKE
So no one's ever even mentioned a holiday, I wanted some event I could use in a planet mod expansion. What about when Solo says he made a "kessel run" in 12 parsecs (sp?) what are those?
Commander Obi-Wan
A parsec is a distance of about 3.26 light years.
REDJOHNNYMIKE
Ohh, so that was a race with a set time?
Hallucination
After I found out what a parsec was, I thought that maybe, since the galaxy is so big, that navigation was also important to smugglers, so the least amount of time spent in hyperspace was a good record to have around. REDJOHNNYMIKE
kinda makes sense, but I don't really see how a record of how far you traveled would be useful without knowing the time involved?
