The Doctor
I have a better example of how we will destroy ourselves than the Borg. DId you ever see the epidoe of Star Trek (Original Series) called "Let this be Your Last Battlefield"? It was about two species who lived on the same planet who had been at war for centuries. They forgot why, they just warred with each other. A man from one of these races was picked up by the Enterprise, and a man from the other species, who was a Law Enforcement officer, claimed that the one the Enterprise picked up was a criminal. They fought on the ship, Kirk trying to get them to talk to one another, but their hatred for each other was limitless. Kirk took them to their homo planet, whose name escapes me at the moment. They Found it destroyed, with no survivours but themselves. Enterprise did a very similar episode, though it was nowhere near as good, being a rip-off of a classic. We can't just skip over hundreds/thousands of years of technological developement to a point where we do not harm the planet. Right now we need things like fossil fuels and such to further our advancement and there's no amount of, "getting along" that will circumvent that simple fact. So in a way we are killing her to eventually help her or at least to get to a point we we're not hurting her. We still need to stop fighting over meaningless crap so we can get there faster. At this rate, we'll kill Earth and each other before we save wither one.

The Doctor
American Civil War - :confused:Nobody won. Both sides still dislike eachother. DId nothing but split the nation against iself. 1812 - WTF was that?!?!? WWI - the war to end all wars my ass. WWII - Stupid Hitler. Just another filthy hypocrit. It was meaningless. We only went to stop the madness. Viatnam - ILLEGAL! AND THEY LOST!!! "War on Terror" - You're only encouraging them, George, and you're not getting anywhere anyway! Iraq - Just an excuse for Bush to invade someone his daddy didn't like.

May have stopped other wars. WW1 -> Haven't studied this war WWII -> Saved millions. Vietnam -> Same as above War on Terror -> Want another 9/11 do you? The Doctor
WWII was still meaningless. Hitler had no reason to go to war. It accomplished nothing. Millions of people died on both sides. If he had just stayed where he belonged and kept his petty beliefs about German supremecy to himself, millions of people would still be alive (or at least died of natural causes). By the war of 1812, I meant the American invasion of Canada. Again, I ask WTF was that?!?!? *snip* Vietnam did not save millions of lives..... we lost, as I recall. Badly. War on Terror. :lol:Where to begin? Ok, have you forgotten the Madrid Train Bombing? The British Subway Bombs? Those are just as bad as 9/11, but you can keep your country bashing to yourself Doc... These are all tragedies with equal impacts upon the world! Bad form! Your ignorance on this subject is staggering Doc, especially the WWII comments, I strongly suggest you actually read some additional books on History you will learn a lot about why things happened. -RH
Emperor Devon
WW1 -> Haven't studied this war Over eleven million people died in the war, and many more millions in the aftermath. All because some 18-year old shot the Archduke... That, you cannot deny, was a completely senseless war. The whole thing could have been avoided if that kid wasn't so opinionated. That probably fulfills your request for a war that was meaningless. WWII -> Saved millions. And lost millions. A couple more million could have lived if the Allies cracked down on Hitler right when he broke the treaty, instead of just leting him conquer a good portion of Europe. War on Terror -> Want another 9/11 do you? Actually, if we'd ignored 9/11 and let the terrorist attacks continue, we probably would've lost less people than if we'd started the war. Just making a few points there. As for earth being a hell hole compared to other planets, none of us are really at a liberty to say. We don't know what other planets are like, so earth could be a paradise or hell compared to others. No point in comparing earth against other planets when you don't even know what you're comparing against.
RedHawke
Well this thread has degraded to a talk about war... it was nice while it lasted but this is over now. Sorry people, but too off topic, and a little too heated a topic I see. Bring the discussion back on topic or the inevitable will befall this thread. Edit: To below post... Thanks Rhett! As far as Urban Legends goes I have learned the most from watching Mythbusters...
Boba Rhett
You're altering the conversation vector everytime anyone says anything. <_> And I love how WWII can be boiled down to "It was meaningless". Well played yet again. Ah screw it, Red's right. Have you checked out http://www.snopes.com? It's really great and has many urban ledgends I've never even heard of. More like WWI. @Jedi_Knight_707 and The Doctor, might I suggest using the PM system to continue your discussion? This thread was originally about urban legends. Sabretooth
1)We're killing our planet. We're also trying to reach others (Mars). We should fix our own planet before we go screwing with other ones. Actually, we're going to other planets because we can't fix ours. It's like, we have corrupted one hard drive, but there's too much important data to erase it, so we're buying a new hard drive/backing up files on to CDs/DVDs/Blu-Rays
JediKnight707
Actually, if we'd ignored 9/11 and let the terrorist attacks continue, we probably would've lost less people than if we'd started the war. I can't believe that you just said that. You mean, that you wish that people would of continued bombing us. To live in fear? We lost 2500+ people in a matter of hours. The war on terror has been going on for a year+, and we've lost 2000+. I'll take my pick with the war. Mod Edit: Jedi_Knight_707, you continued to post about the war topic after I warned everyone to leave it be... so this thread ends. Consider this a warning. -RH

I never said that we should ignore the terrorist attacks. If you would like to discuss this further, we can do it via PM, or you can start your own topic.
