Guest Zoom Rabbit
Hey! What does everyone around here do for a living? I know that Gundog makes airplanes at Boeing, and Nute it seems works in a coffee shop. I'm just curious...what do we all do at work? I realize that most of us will say student. You young 'uns should put down what you want to be or are studying to be. I'll start. I'm a champion podracer who hyper-sets around the galaxy in his Corellian XTC-9000, living the high life...oh, for real? I'm a simple cook. I work in a very busy Applebee's restaurant--a big part of my job is training some of the new cooks who often are just starting (I've been cooking since 1986) to learn the profession. Coincidentally, many of the people I work with are about the same age as most of the members here. I went into cooking because I liked the creativity. The restaurant I'm working at now requires no creativity (in the culinary sense, anyway) but pays the most. Such is life. Next? ------------------ 'Don't shoot--Your sister's in the cockpit with me!' Keyan Farlander
I would give anything in the world to be a musician. A pianist, I think. To walk out on stange all alone, sit at the end of a beautiful Steinway concert grand and play Beethoven's "Hammerklavier" piano sonata - that's what I want. To sit through all 45 minutes of the piece, and pound it out without missing a single note. That is my dream. Sadly, even though I know I am very good pianist, I will never be good enough to achieve that dream no matter how hard I try. So, I am majoring in computer engineering. I hate it with ever fiber of my being, but I know that I CAN do a good job at that. Oh well - I hate my job already, and I don't even have one yet! Wow, my life sucks At least I'm going to heaven when I die, suckers

GUNNER
While I do work for boeing it's not what I want to do forever. I would like to work in the computer feild some how. Maybe design games, build and work on servers, networking. Something where I need a skill and will be valuable. Zoomdog, what restaurant? I'll tell my Uncle and cousin to come by and see ya. Gold leader
I study Aerospace Engineering at the Delft University of Technology and I haven't Got a Clue what The heck I'm gonna Do when I'm done. Since I still Have 4 years To go, I don't Worry about it Too. I think My dream Would be to Design the Most beautiful Aircraft this Planet has Ever seen, but I think I lack the Creativity and Capability to Fulfil it. To prevent My life becoming A total Failure I guess I'll have to Accept that when I've finished Studying I'll get a Decent job, with a Decent salary, Marry a Decent wife, live in a Decent house, have a Decent couple of Decent kids, have a Decent midlife Crisis and then Discover it's Too Late to Trade my Decent Life for a Wild one. Alas, that's Life.

Nitro
I'm currently working 2 part time jobs, on top of high school. I'm a canteen worker for the local CHL team, the <a href=http://www.moncton-wildcats.com>Moncton Wildcats</a>, and I'm a tele-surveyor for BBM Enterprises. Upon graduating from high school in 3 semesters, I'll be enrolling at the Moncton Flight College, the top-ranked flight school in all of North America, and one of the top 5 worldwide. I'm going to be a professional pilot... With a little help from the man upstairs. ------------------ This post has been brought to you by: God I owe him more then anyone here can imagine. Guest rosencrantz
this is a very cool thread keyan you have intrigued me with your speech. for a guy who seems to have his priorities straight it seems to me you somehow overlooked your own dreams and desires as something that is not part of His Big Plan if you know what i mean. i would like to know the reason you chose your major instead of music, your passion. enough lecture and moi...yes i am a part-time student at univ. but i also teach piano and guitar to a bunch of really cool kids (and even people older than me). i won't do it for the rest of my life but it's a good place for me to be right now

Maybe I could be a good pianist, or even a good violinist. I might make a low to mid seat at a fair orchestra. But I will just never be a Stern or an Ax. I know I don't have to be that good, but the life of a simply "good" musician is not that great. Bad pay, no job security, etc. And even if I knew I could make it big, I'm still not sure that I'd do it. The thing is, I really wanted to marry this girl and start a family with her. (Sadly, she dropped me like a bad habbit a couple of months ago, as soon as she got to college. Now I must win her heart again, somehow...) She IS a violin major, by the way, but with a focus in education. But anyway, assuming I can fix things with her or maybe even find someone new (no luck there so far ) I'd really like to be a husband and father. And I just don't think it would work out that great if I had to travel all the time and all that. And if I didn't make it big, then I really wouldn't have good enough security for a family. It seems there is no way to win on this one. But I still play on my own. Even though nobody will ever see me, playing for myself brings me a great deal of happiness. Guest Vark111
Interesting to hear you say that Keyan. I went to school and got a major in music. Taught for a year, and realized that my true calling was in computers. So now I'm the IS manager of a small hardware reseller and my job includes (you listening, Gunner?)building and maintaining servers, doing some light programming (VB/SQL/ASP), and the oddball tech support call that the other guys have no clue how to fix. But I have a lead on a new job, which will be primarily programming VB and SQL. So I need someone to take over my job, and there's no one in this building who's qualified. You wanna move to California, Gun-dog? ------------------ It takes all kinds... The question is, what is 'it'?
Admiral Odin
For a future job it is either going to be accounting or computer something. ------------------ "Dulce bellum inexpertis." Nute Gunray
If by working you mean sitting on a couch, then I work at a coffee shop (well, i do actually work just not a lot ) Other than that I am currently <s>sleeping at</s> attending the crappy community college because I had literally no clue what I was going to do with myself. My TOD there is for computer programming for something (it's like...engineering or something). After that, it's either off to Europe, a real university to pick up POLITICAL SCIENCE or ENGLISH so i can be a writer like I really want to. ------------------ The virtues of Pokemon are lost in a sea of animal warfare and Nurse Joy's miniskirt. (plus, teachers make a lot more money than they ever let on) [This message has been edited by Andromeda (edited January 23, 2001).]

Darth Sceltor
I am a student, currently unemployed (I'm hoping to change that). When I grow up I want to rule the world with an Iron Fist and make everyone bow down to me. Oh realistically? I want to be a videogame designer and work for Nintendo of America. I also want to own a silver Corvette and have 4 kids. One of them will be named Natalie (I like the name...). I will have cats too, and make lots of money (of course). <font size="1">Sorry if my ruling the world part of the post was already put by somebody. Keyan Farlander
I've thought about being a music teacher, and I might teach private lessons on the side, but I would never teach at a school. I've seen what those people have to deal with, and all I have to say is "No thank you." As for the love of my life, I still have a few ideas on getting her back, but I need to wait a bit before I can try any of that. I was with her for 4 years, and now I don't know what to do with myself. I guess I have plenty of time to learn the "Hammerklavier"... ros - Do you play a lot of Beethoven?
