goldberry
I have reinstalled TSL three times, so that's not the problem. Basically, I installed the game, but in a custom directory, so the launcher won't work, but when I use the direct link, it starts the process swkotor2.exe, but not the program. Now I have reinstalled it in the normal directory so the launcher works, but when I go to play (or whatever it says), it does the same thing as above. I am using the UK version, on a Dell 8400 series model, with XP SP2 Home edition, Pentium 4- 3Ghz, 1gb RAM, 113GB Hardrive free. Any help available peeps? Oh yeah, my computer name is ducking fell. figure that out, and your a genius.
goldberry
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that KOTOR 1 runs fine. EDIT: Also, when I load KOTOR Tool, it gives me an error message to say that Chitin.key is not valid or it may be non-US. This probably makes no difference, as my TSL is UK, not US. EDIT: The rims folder is empty, is it supposed to be? EDIT: After reinstalling again, the rims folder is still empty, but is it supposed to be? PLEASE HELP ME!!! EDIT: Editing is less fun than posting... Darth333
The rims folder is empty so don't worry about that. However, you could try turning off some graphic options such as softshadows, per example.
goldberry
But it wont even go to the main menu, nay, show any activity besides a loading mouse, and then stopping. As I said above, the processes tab (ctrl+alt+del) shows the process is running, but the program isn't. So changing the graphics options isn't helping. BTW, thanks for trying. Darth333
Oops, forgot to mention: try updating your drivers. It could be the cds too.
Prime
I wonder if it is trying to validate the CD. I have that problem from time to time. I'm not sure how to rectify that issue if it is happening all the time. I'd try what Darth333 suggested first.
goldberry
The CDs are fine, cause a friend from school installed it and ran it fine, where would i find the appropriate drivers?

hvg3akaek
I am having the same problems here The main menu pops up, I can configure the game, I can update the game, but clicking on the "game" button (to play the game), closes the screen, but does not open the game! I have tried dropping the settings, but that seems to have no effect. hvg3akaek
as in delete it? no... but i will. Which one? the swkotor2.ini or the swplayer.ini?
The Source
as in delete it? no... but i will. Which one? the swkotor2.ini or the swplayer.ini? I would move both files to a 'New Folder' on your desktop. After you move them, restart the game. Usually, the game will remake both .ini files with your new settings. Any changes you made to the original .inis will reset to the defaults.
hvg3akaek
OK, so it remade the swkotor2.ini one, and when i tried to open the game, it re-checked my computer's settings, but then just stopped... trying again results in the same problem as before - clicking "game" simply closes the window, the mouse flashing the the "waiting" icon for a few seconds before the entire game seems to shut down. hvg3akaek
Ta OK, so I reinstalled it and have not patched...and it works... Should I patch? (the only real difference this time than last time is the patching...)
Det. Bart Lasiter
^^^^ No!! The 1.0b patch for this game is exactly what it says it is, a beta release and in some cases caused more problems than it 'solved'. You can install the High-Definition patch, but I don't recommend the 1.0b patch. If you have a problem with the game, you can post details somewhere on this forum or at Holowan Labs, perhaps someone could make a bug fix that just corrects the problem file. There are also various fixes the TSLRP made, you can find them at the 'Downloads' section of their website.
hvg3akaek
oh...how do I install the HD patch? (and is there a way to uninstall the 1.0b patch...?) the original problem then, if 1.0b is as bad as it sounds, would be because of the patch. goldberry
I've now tried everything on this page, but it still won't work, according to the game's requirements, it should not only work, but work exceptionally. Also, KOTOR 1 runs fine, with no problems whatsoever. I have, however realised one thing I didn't notice to start with: If I don't have the CD in, it comes up with the insert CD message, so the game loads from the disc, it just doesn't appear on screen (or as a program for that matter). EDIT: No change in the result, but just to mention, I've updated to 1.0b (niether a, nor b have made a blind bit of difference.) @hvg3akaek: Could you please go through, in a PM if required, EXACTLY what you did to make yours work? At the time, we noticed that he did all the options in this thread. So, I suggested a reinstallation of KotOR II. At the end, he was able to get it to work. It is a little extreme, but it is a final solution.

Try re-installing and then not patching it. I've had start-up problems with the 1.0b patch and they were solved by reverting to v1.0 of the game, and the only way to do this is to re-install
hvg3akaek
Yep, reinstall without patch. What I did was: installed game patched game updated graphic drivers reinstalled DirectX reinstalled game ==> at this point it worked, but I misread the above post, and patched the game because it crashed. Then the game would not work reinstalled game now its working fine ie: don't patch
