Athanasios
Well, the demo is indeed worth it's download time, BUT! The ground camera angle is a bit steep, in the way that you cannot see much of the horizon from high altitude (zoom out). Ofcourse you can zoom in and see the horizon better, but this is not good for tactical management. Someone said that the demo is based on an old version of the game, i hope they corrected this camera issue. The same problem (but worse, the zoom in wouldnt show the horizon) was in Dessert Rats vs Afrika Korps RTS. I don't know fo you, but when i control ground forces i want to be able to see them all while (simultaneously) seeing the horizon (not all of it, but as much as needed to see ahead). See from up down at a 90 degree angle is not only dizzy but it doesnt even help. So, i hope in full version it is possible to scroll around in all angles while in ground, exactly how it is done while in space.
SirLancelot
Hopefully. I love the camera controls in Rome Total War. Hopefully we will have that much control.
Athanasios
Yup, the camera controls/angles in space are the best they could be. But this does not apply for the ground one too (in my humble opinion). [off topic] Do you see grid on "terrain" of the space tutorial missions? Cause i see grid on the whole map apart from a circle radious where my units are (i would post an image if i knew how). It's not very obvious and it doesn't bother anyone, but it's not eye-candy. Maybe it's there to show the 2.5d engine of space ("space lanes") or due to the demo been based on old version of the game.
robotsonic
i think the grid acts as the space version of 'fog of war'. i hope there's an option in the full version to turn it off though, to just have nice clean space to look at
robotsonic
the space grid, if anyone wants a reference. not sure why it's not shown on preview pictures. i certainly never saw any with it on.
Athanasios
Yup, exactly this one. I didnt think of it as "fog of war" though, which seems to be correct. Yet, as you said, it should be turned off or made a lot more less distinct. So, it must be for of war in space, since putting a black screen with only a circle lighted up (where your units are) shouldn't be good-looking. I hope it's better made in the final edition. Slocket
Anyone know how to change the Camera Angle in the full game? For the land battles, it is just too steep. I tried to change everything in the config.meg to no avail. Anyone care about the claustaphobic camera or figured out how to change the default angle? wedge2211
The default camera angle for most ground-based RTS games is 70-80 degrees. What's wrong with the EaW camera? Athanasios, what advantage exactly do you get from being able to look at your units side-on? I find that it's great for checking out the graphical detail on my units, but it's hard to select individual units when they're all behind each other and it's impossible to give them accurate move orders when the ground is viewed from a really shallow angle. Can't you issue orders after locking the camera to a unit (C key)? That would basically give you what you want.
Athanasios
Unfortunately, locking the camera behind short units (ie. troops) focus way too much on the troop, making it even more difficult to play. If you played Total War or Force Commander, you can appreciate how important it is to be able to change the vertical angle of a camera no matter the zoom level. Obviously, if im not mistaken, you think that i want to see the horizon (btw, i don't want to look the landscape, i want to know what is coming - im going to see before i get there) from a zoomed-in angle, but that's not the case. I'd like to be able to see the horizon from high altitude; have the freedom to do so gives you both the advantage of seeing a bit further and to control your units. As i said, Total War and Force Commander's camera system were the ideal systems for me. Hope i was clear...
gswift
I posted this in the "need to fix" thread as a manual omission, but here's how to rotate AND tilt camera angles in space or land: Hold Ctrl and Center Mouse Button (Wheel button) and move the mouse to change the angle. Hope I don't get in trouble for posting the same info in two threads...
Athanasios
Well, finally the camera angle is fixed (check the modding forum)! Devs seem to have disabled the ability to pitch down the camera no matter the zoom level in order to minimize the system specs. Yet, i strongly suggest that everyone should try the little mod and compare how it is too look from an 80 degree look while zoomed out and being free to see however you like. Personally, as with this tweak the FC camera system is back, i feel way more free to lay down strategies. Just a note, this thread may be locked.
