stingerhs
you might want to check for newer graphics drivers. your problem is a very similar problem to the problems experienced with ATI cards before the 5.4 Catalyst release. in other words: it was a driver issue. unfortunately, i'm not very aware as to how often Intel updates the drivers for their chipsets, so your best bet may be to check and see if you can upgrade to a video card from either ATI (Radeon 9200 or better) or Nvidia (GeForce FX5200 or better). just keep in mind what kind of upgrade slot you have on your computer. for more info, check here. stingerhs
video card, graphics board, you say tomato, i say tomato. and, for the record, Intel does not make actual graphics boards designed to plug into an expansion slot. instead, they make mediocre graphics processors that are integrated into the motherboard itself. roughly translated: graphics cards>integrated chipsets. and ATI and Nvidia>Intel when it comes to graphics processors. Guy! Did you miss his specs or someting? He doesn't have a Graphics Card installed... He has a standard Video card. My question was, does he need a Graphics Card to run KotOR II? If he needs a Graphics Card, then he should buy one. How can you have an ATI problem when you don't have an ATI card?
stingerhs
no, i did not miss his specs. let me be plain here: Intel does not make video cards. just because the file says he has a "video card" does not mean he actually has a physical card plugged into an AGP, PCI, or PCI-E slot that processes the graphics info. instead, there is a chip built into the motherboard (an integrated chipset) that processes the graphics info. that is what Intel makes: integrated chipsets for the motherboard, not video cards. and i compared his problem to the ATI driver issue because his description matches the description of the old ATI driver issue that was present with the Catalyst Drivers 4.12-5.2. does that mean his problem is the exact same?? of course not, but there stands a fair chance that its a similar problem related to the video drivers. Actually... They do... Intel Celeron has an intergrated 'Intel' Video Card. However, Pentiums have a PCI or AGP Video card...(A card that can be physically removed.) I couldn't find pictures. So, I found some here: http://cgi.ebay.com/Intel-740-Real-3D-StarFighter-8-MB-AGP-Video-Card_W0QQitemZ8755286220QQcategoryZ3762QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I put together computers on the weekends. stingerhs
ok, then lets get some things straight: there's no point in arguing about whether or not Intel makes 'removable video cards' if Elven6 has an integrated chipset instead of a video card. and the other point: that is the first time i have ever seen an Intel video card, and this is the first time i've seen an 8MB video card in a really long time. seriously, debate over. nobody deserves the kind of confusion this off topic discussion is promoting. Elven6
Well if kotor 1 works fine then why would TSL have problems?
stingerhs
although TSL uses the same graphics engine as Kotor I, OE modified it to improve the level of graphics. they also added in a number of graphics features, but i don't think many of them were implemented. basically, its the same engine with more features, so TSL has a different set of requirements than Kotor I. hope that helps. Darth333
Well the Intel i915 chipset is listed as officially unsupported on the LA website: http://support.lucasarts.com/tsg/SWKotORIIQuestions/Video%20Issues/UnsupportedVideo.htm

You may experience the following issues: Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II may not run. You may go to a black screen, especially after task switching for a prolonged period of time. The frame rate may be slow and choppy. Transitions may be slow. Sound may stutter and pop. Setting Up Your Monitor If you experience any video problems, you should make sure that your monitor is set up correctly in the display control panel. To do this: Right-click on the desktop where there are no icons. Choose Properties from the shortcut menu. Click on the Settings tab. Click on Advanced… Windows 98/ME: Select the Monitor tab and click on Change… Windows 98: Click on Next> Windows ME: Choose Specify the location of the Driver… Click on Next> Choose Display a list of all drivers… and click on Next> Windows 2000/XP: Select the Monitor tab and click on Properties. Click on the Driver tab. Click on Update Driver… Windows 2000: Choose Display a list of all drivers… Click on Next> Windows XP: Choose Install from list or specific location… Choose Don’t search. I will choose the driver to install… Click on Next> Choose your monitor from the list. If you are unable to find your monitor listed, please consult the manufacturer of your monitor to see if they have Windows drivers available. This driver allows Windows to set up the monitor correctly. If the correct monitor is not an option in Show Compatible Devices, click on Show All Devices, scroll through the list of manufacturers, click on the correct one, then click on the name of your monitor. If you are unable to find the correct monitor listed, go to standard monitor types at the top of this list and select Plug and Play Monitor. This driver should work with most Windows compatible plug and play monitors, and may correct issues with some older video cards.
