Acrylic
Y'know, if trying to find a pathway to God is your mission, I think waking up at 7 o'clock wouldn't be that much of an ordeal. I'm a teen that gets up at 6:45 at every day, and at 7:30 on saturday to drop my mom off at work, and Sunday is the only day I can ever sleep in. So, ya know. ZBomber
There are a lot of churches that have 4 PM masses on Saturdays. Thats what I did when I went to church.
Tyrion
Oh, heh, guess you do deserve Sunday then Acrylic. As for me, I believe that having your own personal belief is best. Sure, believe in a God. Believe in morality. But it has to be a personal experience that you found Him, not that you simply have faith in some major religion because you feel you need to. It's not so much that you'd believe in a religion, that's fine and dandy. But I don't think that believing in a religion only to believe in something would do well for your soul. Acrylic
You woman. You get up that early to get ready for a class that starts at 9:05? I get up at 6:45, after showering and getting all ready, I'm out of the house by 7:50. Just so I can get a good parking spot at school. So, I'm there about an hour before school starts. And basically everyone is. Cuz we talk. And stuff. Cuz we're cool. And I'm not finding something to believe in just to believe in it. My own personal beliefs aren't giving me comfort, so ya know, I wanna change that.

ET Warrior
My own personal beliefs aren't giving me comfort, so ya know, I wanna change that. What kind of comfort are you looking for? You're in high school, what kind of comfort could you possibly need?
El Sitherino
What kind of comfort are you looking for? You're in high school, what kind of comfort could you possibly need? The kind only brought by that of a warm, naked, female body. I suggest checking out Buddhism, it's not a very strict belief system, mostly it just depends on how determined you are to make a better life for yourself. Mind you it's not so much a religion as a philosophy, though there are some that regard Buddha as something of a god-like being.

My mom has a lot of beliefs that are reflected in buddism (nonviolence, reincarnation, karma, spirituality, etc.) Either that or you could check out "secular humanism." Kurgan
I could...but I really don't want to wake up at 7 to go to a 9AM mass, ya know, and 12 is outta the question, because that seems kinda late. You can look up mass times in your area. Where I'm at I can go at night (7 or 10 pm). And as mentioned there's Saturday. Some churches even have service every day! Great to see all the replies.... It brings warm feelings to my heart to see how helpful you guys always are! *sniff*
manoman81
Well, it was the great Eddie Izzard that said "I don't believe in religions. I think that they are philosophies. Some have great ideas and others are really freaking weird." (Edited for language and I can't remember the exact quote at the moment.) I think that Chris Rock's character in Dogma said it pretty well too. Having an idea is easier to change than a belief system. Out of all seriousness, I know what you're going through. Been going through the samething in the past few years. I'm a history major and after reading and studying wars born out of religious fervor, I have come to this conclusion: There is no one right religion. Personaly, I believe that there is a high being that is around. Reaons is that if you look at the human body, it is an incredible work of engineering. Even if are ancestors crawled out of some primordial pool and developed into what we are today, I beleive that something had to think it through. Also, all Judeo-Christian religions, including Islam, have one thing in common: YHWH, God, The One True God, the Universal God, Allah. So who's right? No one if they all beleive in the same deity. I am glad you are putting a lot of thought into this. There are those that will jump on a bandwagon because it's in the news or their friends have done it. Word of caution: You are at an age where you might be shown something flashy about a certain idea or set of beliefs. I'm refering to cults. Keep your eyes open for these. They aim at people like you who are looking for something more in life. I would hate to read about a Swamper that was found dead after a group suicide. Do you're reading and research. If something looks fishy, it probably is. Good luck in finding your way. I hope you find the enlightenment you're looking for.
Sabretooth
Ookay. I'm going through a similar phase, where Religion is a confusing thing. As Majin said, I don't really believe in Religion - It is a psychological phenomena, but I wouldn't discourage it. Religion is what brings hope to the hopeless - what brings reasons to the unreasonable. In this world - in mankind, religion is necessary. Nevertheless, I'm interested in religion, but only at a scholarly level. I'm a Hindu. The best part about being a Hindu is that Hinduism isn't strict. You can say that you hate Hinduism, that you don't care, that you're an atheist, but you'll still stay a Hindu. In Hinduism one does not believe in One God. In India, there have been various cultures and their Gods were combined to form Hinduism. Of course, like all other religions, there is still one form of God, one all-seeing, all-knowing entity. If the Christians have the Bible and the Muslims their Quran, then the Hindus have the "Bhagwat Gita". This is an extract from the massive Sanskrit epic the "Mahabharata". The Bhagwat Gita is like the Bible and the Quran - it guides your life and gives it rules. The original is in Sanskrit, but they are tons of translations available. Research more if you're interested. You'll also want to check with your nearest ISKCON centre. That's the International Society for Krishna Consciousness. It's a Hindu organisation that focuses on the god Krishna. That's what started the "Hare Rama Hare Krishna" stuff them hippies do. So... lemme know if you want to know more. P.S. - The Bible, The Holy Quran, the Bhagwat Gita, The Vedas and Upanishads (more Hindu texts) are available, fully translated at Wikisource.org
Black Knight of Keno
I'm actually an atheist and can't wait to achieve the age of 15 so I can officially set the church behind me. Atheism is a very interesting 'religion' in itself. Unlike in being devoted to one church, you can think more freely and can study other religions' sides about things without some co-believers giving dirty looks. Here's a link: http://www.infidels.org/news/atheism/intro.html Of course, there is also the jedi religion... I just don't know how to join... >.> <.<
toms
My own personal beliefs aren't giving me comfort, so ya know, I wanna change that. Maybe it isn't religion that you need. Lots of people find the same kind of inner peace in differennt ways. Meditation. Volunteer work. Hobbies/Pastimes/Sports. Martial Arts. Music. I think people often feel they have a gap in their life when they haven't "found their thing" yet. (no rude jokes please ) Getting to school an hour early!!?!
