Favourite land and space unit

Mine would have to be the airspeeder on land, they rule, i got 3 squads to take out the entire enemy ground force, 4 buidings, power generator and turbolaser towers (with a little help from artillery, to take out those nasty anti aircraft turrets)

My favourite space unit is the acclamator, they are fast (for a frigate, if thats what it is) they hold a squad of ties and a squad of bombers, they have proton torpedoes, lasers (i cant remember is they have an ion cannon) and no visible shield generation hardpoint, and they are only tech 1!

i disagree, they are not designed to combat small units, just like pretty much everything the empire has (death star) they are designed to decimated anything infront of them and never look back, which is pretty much what they do. I love em, being able to crush people and deploy storm troopers are abilities i take advantage of often

If the AT-AT could attack anything, it would probably spawn balance problems. And like FunkyDwarf said, they can already deploy stormtroopers to take out the small stuff.

Favourite ground units? I would go for Imperial speeder bikes. Fast, useful against infantry and it's nice to drop bombs...

For the space units, I would go with Corellian Corvettes or Tartan Cruisers. They are pretty fast and quite useful.

As the Empire...

On land, I absolutely love the AT-AT. It provides a ton of raw power, and I've conducted any number of ground assaults by just dropping AT-ATs and having them deploy troops. There are vulnerabilities...but who cares, when you're the evil Galactic Empire?! In space, I think the decision is tougher--all the ships have strengths and weaknesses, and no one ship class can overpower all the others.

As the Rebel Alliance...

On a planet's surface, I think the Infiltrator is the coolest. I've taken to dropping two squads as a raid fleet and, as long as the Imperial garrison is light on TIE maulers and 2-M tanks, they can really mix it up down there. My second-favorite thing about them is seeing a squad of Stormtroopers approach, giving them a STOP command, watching four troopers instantly drop dead, moving the Infiltrators a bit further out of range, and repeating, turning a well-drilled squad of precisely trained Imperial troopers into a string of bodies. My favorite thing about them is, of course, sneaking into the Imperial base from some side approach and planting detonators on one of the expensive Imperial production buildings. I've used those raids to cripple Imperial infrastructure! In orbit, I think that while again no ship is obviously the best, I tend to build a lot of Corellian Gunships. They're fast anyways, can mow down fighters, can gang up on Imperial corvettes and frigates, and their missiles can be used to penetrate enemy shield and knock out strategic hardpoints. I've also noticed that their "power to engines" ability never wears off...I think that's a bug, but I'm happy to take advantage of it to scout or set up pincers!

Ground

Rebels: I like using the Snowspeeders or just the Rebel Trooper for that matter. If you have a lot of Rebel Trooper, they can take out anything. :D

Empire: I like using the Stormtrooper or Vader. Both effective in almost any sitution.

Space

Rebels: I like the Frigates or the Mon Calamari. Frigates can take out the larger ships quite easily.

Empire: Any of the larger capital ship......gotta love the power. :D

Obviously heroes are best, but as far as regular units:

Ground: Infantry for both factions (but they can't be alone)

Space: I play a lot of MP, so my views are skewed that way.

-Rebel: Corellian Gunship (love those missiles. I use them like a wolf pack)

-Empire: Acclamator Cruiser (Cheap, available early, and spawns ties)

Empire Units:

  • Space Units: hmm, tossup between the ISD's and the Acclamator's. the Acclamator has a lot different weapon types which makes it good against everything (albeit not great). the ISD is self explanatory. ;)
  • Ground Units: i love to combo up AT-AT's and TIE Maulers. AT-AT's handle the vehicles and can deploy troopers to capture buildpads and reinforcement points. the Maulers can take care of the infantry. that and Maulers are dirt cheap; so, its not a big deal if a platoon gets wiped out.

Rebel Units:

  • Space Units: tossup between the Calamari Cruisers and the Corellian Gunships. i don't like the Rebel units quite as much, though, simply due to the inability of their ships to spawn fighters.
  • Ground Units: T4-B's and Infiltrators. i use that combo much the same as i do the AT-AT and Mauler combo mentioned above. that and stormtroopers can be fairly easy to run over in the T4's. :D

Space:

For the Rebellion, I will primarily use Assault Frigates and Neb B's. If used correctly, a contingent of about 2-3 Assaults and 3-4 nebs with some fighter/vette escort can rip apart almost any Fleet the Empire matches it with. Just when your taking a beating, flip on shields and mass fire on the SD's. You can easily out slug them at that point.

Concerning the Empire, my favorite ship is the Victory Star Destroyer. Generally what I'll do is send 2-3 of those in and then, when the enemy is focusing on them, I bring an ISD from the rear and just smash them out of the way. Vic's aren't targeted as much as ISD's, so it allows you to take less damadge. Using the power to weapons ability at the right time makes all the difference too. I can't remember how many times I've seen people blow there power to shields at the wrong time and just have entire fleets of Neb B's fall to just one phalanx of my Vics.

I don't play ground that much.

yeh i suppose the at-at's do need to have a weakness, otherwise they would be too powerful
