Astrotoy7
You know, I didn't think about this till now... but apple would have to cooperate with the local phone networks around the world for this wouldn't they... I wonder how it's going for apple down here in Australia. with the GSM+EDGE specs used by the iphone, its most likely it will be Telstra or Vodafone...optus a distant third. Thats what the buzz seems to be around the traps. Who knows...Im sure you dont care either Lynky!! One thing that really *shocked* me when I found it out was that the iphone has a FIXED battery. That sounds really silly, for such a multimedia heavy device... Ive always had a spare battery to swap for my pda phone, for when you go away or forget to plug it in etc... crazy! mtfbwya
Lynk Former
Yeah, I don't care that's exactly why I'm posting in here lol Actually I heard a rumour from a friend that things weren't going well with Apple trying to strike up a deal with Telstra. Da_man
Meh, why does everyone think everything Apple does is the best thing since sliced bread? It's nothing impressive, my own Sony Ericsson still does me fine... That made me spew Deit Pepsi out my nose, it's so funny. On a related note, I heard sony going to make a PSP phone. In fact, here's the article. Take that, iProduct! Anyways, my mom's blackberry does the same thing.
Astrotoy7
lolz....sony-ericsson having been making multimedia oriented phones for quiet a while... there is also the the UX180, the ultamobile pc, with bells, whistles, wifi, webcam and full XP. Theyre magically expensive though I got to use a colleagues one when we were out doing field research in a remote area(in Indonesia of all places). A fully functional pc and much easier than carting a laptop around... still, theyre not for everyone, IMO. im sure we'll have a nin-phone and a psp-phone one day.... its about money ya'll.. hopefully, they'll support 3G/UMTS as well.... not just GSM/EDGE....do Apple think its 1997?? mtfbwya
Lynk Former
Nin-phone? Never gonna happen PSP-phone? I'd bet Sony has already thought of that and would do it in the future.
Astrotoy7
Nin-phone? Never gonna happen why not?? you can already do chat via wifi...this would just be the next step A UMTS/3G enabled ds successor could make for some awesome multplayer games.....you could see/hear/communicate with your opponents/co-op team etc more freely than a text based chat interface (just like already exists in PC games) twould be great I'll bet you a coke it'll happen...integrated with a gaming device... mtfbwya

Lynk Former
@ Astro: Because Nintendo is a tiny, tiny company which isn't capable of investing their money in many different projects like Sony can. The most Nintendo does in make Hanafuda cards and videogames and design videogame consoles. Nintendo does offer limited VOIP support for a couple of its DS games at the moment, but that's as far as it goes and it's directly related to the game. Sony has Ericsson to and their relationship with them is strong. Nintendo on the other hand would have to invest quite a lot of money into applying phone technology to their devises and it wouldn't be cost effective for them. Plus Nintendo is shunned by the online gaming community because they severely limit their online network. It's absolutely nothing like Xbox Live and it will never be cause Nintendo is too afraid of getting its ass sued. Nintendo is a rich company, it's the most profitable out of Sony and Microsoft, but they still can't afford to do anything like add cell phone technology to the next-gen DS, no matter how popular it has gotten. Note: This is only my opinion, not meant to be all like "NO YOU'RE WRONG! SHUT UP!" ... Just thought I'd add that in just so you don't get the wrong idea @ Moel: That's not a Nintendo phone. It was discovered that Nintendo was interested in putting their really old NES titles on phones, it's the latest craze remember. It was rumoured that they would have these games on a specific brand of phone made by one of the usual cell phone companies. EDIT: I thought this was an Iphone thread, Astro... last I heard you didn't like it when I mentioned any videogames in threads that didn't speak about videogames...? Astrotoy7
....EDIT: I thought this was an Iphone thread, Astro... last I heard you didn't like it when I mentioned any videogames in threads that didn't speak about videogames...? we are discussing phones. Surely if Nintendo ever did want to enable voice + video networking for a handheld....it'd end up being a phone too Of course they'd never make a standalone phone... that makes no sense.... ah well, in the interiM, if someone would like to loan me money to buy one of those vaio gadgets...... mtfbwya
Lynk Former
we are discussing phones. Surely if Nintendo ever did want to enable voice + video networking for a handheld....it'd end up being a phone too Of course they'd never make a standalone phone... that makes no sense.... Buy Pokemon Diamond/Pearl and play online with a friend, there's your phone Other than that Nintendo has experimented with VOIP but primarily for gaming purposes. At this point in time you're better off with Microsoft for what you're talking about since Xbox Live provides all of that and more. Nintendo does have the DS but has no intent into following that path at all. And the only one perfectly capable of pulling this off is, like I said, Sony. HerbieZ
I love technology, but my phone, ipod and PDA are enough as they are. If i get anything else, my head will explode.
