tk102
Its Creators Call Internet Outdated, Offer Remedies Link Saw this article in the paper this morning and thought I'd share it. Basically the thrust of it is that with the rise in streaming audio/video over the Internet, there's concern that congestion will soon arise without new technologies. Dr. Larry Roberts, the guy who led the Pentagon team who developed ARPANet, has a great quote: The Internet wasn't designed for people to watch television. I know because I designed it.He's got a company called Anagran which is developing a new type router dubbed "flow router" which detects the type of data stream being sent and dynamically allocates the bandwidth requirements. QFE Im looking forward to the time when you can use your brain as a CPU and that'd be it... that would stop all the ridiculous AMD vs Intel shenanigans. As long as it doesnt require something that looks like tks geek glasses to interface with it - Im happy mtfbwya

Knowing human nature, there will always be something to argue about.... Even if we were using our brains for CPU/GPU and storage, there'll always be someone bragging their BrainBenchMark Score is higher than someone elses mtfbwya

Samuel Dravis
TK, I've seen some info on this before. Apparently the biggest culprit of bandwidth-eating was Bittorrent - not terribly surprising, since most of the stuff available on that is binaries/compressed files. The article's solutions seem to be simply bandwidth shaping technologies, and while those would definitely be useful they aren't going to fix the ultimate limitations of the current tech. Still, it's definitely going to be problem upgrading all the equipment now that so many using the current system...
Char Ell
Who is this Larry Robert guy? Everybody knows Al Gore is the "Father of the Internet." But if Al Gore thinks the Internet is outdated then it must be because he isn't sitting in the Oval Office and wants to father the Internet's replacement as well.
