tk102
It's all about marketing. At the end of the day, Blu-Ray has a cooler name. I mean who needs another acronym? I bet someone at Warner Bros and Disney thought that too.
acdcfanbill
It's more about who could afford to fork over more of the hundreds of millions to studios for their 'exclusive' contracts than it is about marketing. Or perhaps that's the same thing, I'm not sure.
Monkey Mania
HD-DVD is a mouthful, Blu-ray is just two syllables.
Crow_Nest
Somehow im not surprised that bluray won. Oh well, another reason to buy a PS3 in the coming future. I'll be waiting for MS to make a Blu-Ray drive for the 360. Heh, i doubt they'll ever will...

El Sitherino
Haven't they been working on that since like... a month after the 360 came out? As a just in case.
StormHammer
I'm just glad the format war is over. I won't be getting a HDTV any time soon (especially with the dearth of HD channels available in the UK), but I hope to build a new PC some time this year, so now I know to get a Blu-Ray drive for it and a compliant monitor and try out Blu-Ray movies on that. Having said that, I won't be replacing my DVD collection any time soon. It's taken me this long to build it up after I ditched all my VHS tapes and there's not that much incentive to replace them all with Blu-Ray versions. It will be up and coming movies that I will start to get in the Blu-Ray format (after the price drops a bit).

StormHammer
Thanks for the welcome. Been a long time, but I thought I'd peek around the door frame to see what's going on.
