DeadYorick
I just got the book Planet of the Apes by Pierre Boulle from my library. I must say its getting very good. I was always very interested in the whole Dystopian ape scene. The whole story is reminding me of the final part of Gulliver's travels So is anyone a Planet of the Apes fan? Jvstice
Never read the book, but liked the original movies, the Dark Horse comic, and the remake a few years from a few years ago.
Totenkopf
The first two or three of the five original pics were decent, but it got progressively silly after that. Didn't like the remake. Vaguely remember seeing the series on tv on some retro station. Also haven't read the book. How faithful were any of the movies to the novel? DeadYorick
The first movie was quite faithful to the novel. Except that it had a better ending then the novel did. They even kept some of the character's names still in the movie. The rest were just random sequels.
Astrotoy7
I prefer the version where all the monkeys are lured towards a big pile of bananas, only to plummet into a large camouflaged pit of doom mtfbwya
montnoir
I translated the entire introduction (on the spaceship) of the Tim Burton movie, up until he crashes on the planet. Afterwards through the contacts I made for that job I got to translate the entire movie for a television channel (Prima). Err... by the way, I think the original movie is among the Top 5 movies of all time. The book? I've read better...
DeadYorick
I liked the original movie more then the book since the screen writers were better writers then Pierre Boulle was. They just took his already good idea and made it 10x better. Boulle even said he wished he thought up the ending of the first movie.
Titanius Anglesmith
I've never read the book, but I've seen the 2001 remake (which was crap compared to the originals), and I have all the originals on DVD. The first is, of course, excellent, and the other four are "meh."
Totenkopf
Yeah, especially where Heston goes "Get your stinking paws off me, you damn dirty ape!"
Q
^^^ That was awesome cinema there. And yes, the remake was pure crap.
Cygnus Q'ol
The original was pure cinematic genius. I didn't mind the remakes as I was a kid and didn't know the difference. However, watching them later in life, I can see they were crap. I actually had the action figures. I had Cornelius, Dr. Zayus, and the modifiable cave w/weapons and accessories. I haven't read the novel in decades. I don't even acknowledge the remake as it was very badly acted and the costume and art design were garbage. Not an interesting shot in the whole movie. As I grew older I began to appreciate Heston's character. I mean if you're going to be stranded in an apocalyptic future with no civilization, what's better than having a knockout, dead gorgeous woman with you who can't speak. Lucky bastard. Yeah, but why have to wait till the apocalypse..... (unfortunately they ruined that illusion by the last (?) one of the 5....o'course the world "ended" shortly after she was able to utter a word...a dire warning perhaps ). DeadYorick
Ive begun to read another of Boulle's novels called The bridge over the river Kwai. But it isn't as good or well thought out as Planet of the Apes was. For some reason the writing style keeps reminding me of planet of the apes Did anyone here even like the remake? Since I haven't seen it yet so I am wondering
Serpentine Cougar
I've only seen the remake and thought it was an interesting concept, but the execution was lame (especially the ending). Maybe I'll check out the book or other movie sometime.
