Cliche
Perhaps this should be under the 'glitches' sticky, but I wasn't sure it would get noticed there. In any case, I was wondering if anyone has had trouble with missing or lost figments. Even after consulting various 'figment guides', there's one in the Milkman Conspiracy that simply isn't there. I've also noticed that after finding all the figments in The Race, two of them have vanished from my inventory and can no longer be found on the course. I no longer have saves that would return me to the start of these scenes. Other than replaying the game from the start, is there a way to 'reboot' the figments in order to get a complete score? Thanks!

Thanks! Figment guides are tricky, because some of the figments are in different places depending on which system Psychonauts is played on. Be sure to use guides for your system. More than one guide, as two location descriptions sometimes work better than one. Syonyx walkthrough for the PS2 is excellent, but Syonyx' Figment guide is for the PC. That messed me up for a long time once in Black Velvetopia, looking for a missing figment in the wrong place. There's no way to reset figments, but the figments in Milla's race are a nightmare to find. I've collected them without seeing them first while walking Raz around looking for them, when I knew what I was looking for and where to look. What's your system and what are the coordinates of the missing figment in the Milkman Conspiracy? If figments vanished from Raz' inventory then that's a first. The only workaround is beating all the levels of the punching game in Basic Braining in one go. That raises Raz' rank by one.

Cliche
I'm playing on a PC and have cross-referenced guides by IUG13, LeMelass and Syonyx. (IUG13 is the only one I could find which states it was based on the PC version) The guides all seem pretty similar when it comes to location, but use different numbering systems. Here's my problem figments: Milkman Conspiracy: Page 4, 1st row, 5th across - apparently an antenna atop a house after the first leap to a new street. One guide calls this figment #77. It has a rank of 3. Never been able to locate this one. The Race: Page 2, bottom row, 4th across - a star halfway through the course near a booster. #46, rank 1. Page 4, 2nd row, 4th across - go-go girl near one of the giant shoes. #81, rank 1. Could swear I found these, but I'm worried I jumped to an earlier save where I hadn't, and now the game both thinks I've found them and haven't. In any case, the figments are no longer on the course and I've already walked through it several times as Jove suggested. Thanks again!
Toliver
The figments in Milla's Race are trickier than in other levels because (to me, at least) they seem to be more transparent or fade in and out (a slow pulse) whereas most figments in other levels don't fade in or out at all. And there are a couple figments that were placed by the evil genius game makers where they tend to blend in to the background (being a similar color). You almost have to be right in front of them before you can see them. Every big shoe in the race has a figment in the arch which is easy to check. The last shoe has a a small line of figments (stars?) leading to the arch that has a figment in it. I can't recall if it's the go-go girl figment in the arch but I'm thinking it is. There is one solitary go-go girl figment out in the middle of nowhere during the race (meaning it's not near anything). It's very hard to find...I think it's at about a fifth of the way through the race right in the center of the track. Stars are usually found in a line. Meaning if you hit one, there's usually going to more to follow. When you hit one, immediately stop/get off your levitation ball. Look behind you to see if you may have missed any. Then turn forward and walk ahead through each star. And there are some stars at the very top of the ramps. I usually walk up to the top of the ramps, turn on Levitation and bounce straight up to get it. As for The Milkman Conspiracy, not all antennas are on the very top portion of the roof. Some can be found on a smaller roof portion above the garage doors. They can be easy to miss. There could be another solution for this one figment. Most of the houses have a simple box shape of a backyard. Some will have an "L" shape with the leg of the "L" portion usually holding patio furniture. There is only one house in the entire level that has a small area (like a mini "L") in the backyard to one side hiding a figment. With this one house, this little leg of the "L" portion is on the opposite side of the house where you usually find patio furniture. It's hard to see because when you get Raz over to it, the camera view is sometimes blocked by the curvyness of the next door house. I believe the figment on this little side portion is an antenna/satellite dish. Good luck.

Here's my problem figments: The Race: Page 2, bottom row, 4th across - a star halfway through the course near a booster. #46, rank 1. It seems to be the same on the PS2. The Race - 2-4-4. From Syonyx Figment Guide (which is for the PS2. I misstated previously.) 2 (Page) Appearance: Star 4 (Row) Colour (field): Light blue Colour (grid): Bright pink 4 (Column) Figment Points: 1 Location: At around 75% of the way to the finish line, before the speed gate under the second raised yellow ramp. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 2 (Page) Appearance: Star 4 (Row) Colour (field): Light green Colour (grid): Lime green 5 (Column) Figment Points: 1 Location: On the ground below the second raised yellow ramp, between the giant platform shoe and the speed gate on the left side. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 2-4-5 is right before 2-4-4. Use its location description to help zero in. Under the second (continuous) ramp, after the platform shoe and before the speed gate. The speed gate is on the left hand side, under the second raised yellow ramp as Syonyx says. Blue star 2-4-4 is between the two full speed gate symbols on the ground leading up to the speed gate. The figment is slightly offset to the left (higher ground). The figment is tough to see from the first speed gate symbol. So if you can't spot it, stand Raz on the speed gate symbol just before the speed gate and look back. Use first person view as that gives a sharper image. Look back and a little to the right of the previous speed gate symbol. I'm playing on a PC and have cross-referenced guides by IUG13, LeMelass and Syonyx. Here's my problem figments: The Race: Page 4, 2nd row, 4th across - go-go girl near one of the giant shoes. #81, rank 1. I make that as #82. 3 pages @ 24 ea = 72 1 row @ 6 ea = 6 -- 78 78 + 4 = 82. That's a green cyclops girl inside the first raised ramp. A ways after the first boost inside the ramp. I have Raz standing there now. Just got this one. Jump left from the first telephone repairman. Second house on the left from there. The figment's in plain sight on the top of the highest part of the roof. There's a car in the driveway, a chimney, and one tree in the backyard. No fireplace inside. Just to be sure we're all looking in the same place. There's another TV antenna figment hidden under a low eave in the side yard behind the fence, on the opposite side from the driveway, as Toliver talked about. You probably want to check there. DarthAve
In the milkman conspiricy, did you walk around the back edge of the garden place. Not the cemetary, the place where you got the flowers. Walk around the back edge of that, on the grass. There's a guy with a lawnmower I believe, it was a really tricky figment for me. Anything else, I've always found this figment location guide to be really detailed and helpful.
martmeister
I give up trying to find all the figments in Milla's race. Not fun trying to get all of 'em in Waterloo, either.
Cliche
Thank you for all the help!! I've managed to find the antenna and go-go girl figments though I don't know how I ever missed them after covering the same ground five or six times. Still stuck on that one star in The Race... Jove
Thank you for all the help!! I've managed to find the antenna and go-go girl figments though I don't know how I ever missed them after covering the same ground five or six times. Still stuck on that one star in The Race... The Milkman Conspiracy is confusing. The Race all looks the same. Thank heavens for Syonyx and others. Great. You got those two so I'm confident you can get the third one. Quoting what I wrote before: "It seems to be the same on the PS2. The Race - 2-4-4." "From Syonyx Figment Guide (which is for the PS2. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - "2-4-5 is right before 2-4-4. The thermometer-like column on the upper left shows Raz progress on the race course. Syonyx estimate of 75% seemed almost exact. That means when the center of Raz' face is 3/4 of the way up the column you'll be close to the figment. Just the narrow column. Don't count the base and top. I think you could almost use a ruler to measure Raz position. Try using that to find the correct speed gate. From there follow my directions above. If this figment is the same on the PC and the PS2 you should be able to find it.
Cliche
Found the star (lt. blue against almost the same color background) - thanks!! Now I'm trying to snag the leftover figments in Waterloo World - particularly the ones in a sting across the river. These are the opposite way around - quite easy to spot, but difficult to figure out how to reach. Even when I bouce or float in the smoke, I can't get enough altitude and pass right under them. Great! Glad to answer questions about figments in Waterloo World. I spent some time developing various techniques there and am happy to pass them on. There's a trick to the smoke. While floating in the smoke face the figments, then back up slowly. Just when you start to fall, start forward again and go to the figments. This will give Raz upward as well as forward momentum. Psychonauts' physics model is so good that this works. The first few times I tried it Raz passed *over* the figments. There are still more tricks for other problem figments. Cliche
Jove - your hover trick worked quite well for a couple of the figments, thanks again. The rest I was making more difficult than they actually are. By moving the cows around while in 'large' mode, or jumping off a land mass instead of a building, I was able to grab the others. Really haven't had any problems since other than Velvetopia - trying to get the power-up and cat figment on a ledge down the street from the fire escape - one long jump. I'm in the Meat Circus now, and the game is close to an end...tried to stretch it out as long as I could. Originally heard good things about Psychonauts from a rerun of X-Play and bought copies of it from a local Big Lots for six bucks each. Gave one to my 12 year old nephew as a Christmas gift, and have been playing the other myself. Think my nephew breezed through the thing (he called asking about a segment I hadn't reached) - but don't know if he spent time looking for all the extras. Yahtzee Croshaw's Zero Punctuation review of Psychonauts, right? Don't give up on the game after a single playthrough. I was still finding new clever stuff after playing Psychonauts ten times. Let us know how the final level goes.
