Mandalorians
Still a no go it came up with the same error. Forgive me if this is a dumb question because I'm not really a genius on computers but would there be a way to manually install the patch where I could pick its route and what file it mods or...? Q
It's always found my installation folder with 64-bit Windows, but you could try moving the patch to the game's folder and running it from there.
Mandalorians
re-downloaded and moved the patch into kotor 2's folder. Still came up with the same error. Q
I see no Dantooine lag fix: First, figure out where the .ini is installed. Default is "C:\Program Files\Lucasarts\swkotor(2)\swkotor(2).ini". If its not in that location, then your going to have to do some searching around on the hard drive a bit. When you find it, just double-click on the file to open it in Notepad. Scroll down the file until you find the Graphics Options Under the last line ("last line" as in the last line of the list of entries under "Graphics Options", NOT the last line of "swkotor(2).ini"), add "Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1", without the quotes. Goto File, then Save. Also, you have an AMD video card, and AMD/ATi video cards are notoriously bad with these games. There are a couple of workarounds in post #2. They're pretty old, but worth a try.
Jacaranda
Just been trying the lag fix, whenever I try to save the file it says access denied, is there something else i should do first? changed it from "read only" but hasn't made a difference? rhinohoops8
Hey guys! Good to see you're still working to keep all of us happy! Anyways, I recently updated my graphics driver, and I decided to install KOTOR2 for about the 5th time, and I tried to go to my 3D settings thing to change it to Blit, but I can't find it anywhere. Here's a picture of what it looks like now: Any suggestions? Maybe it automatically set it to blit haha Oh, and if you need my System info, just ask. rhinohoops8
I am not sure how, but I got it working at least once now! I should say I added the 3D analyse program, and checked Emulate HW TnL Caps. Also, I ran BOTH the update from the LA site, and the one from here. Despite one not finishing, I am on the new game version now and it works Exactly what updates are we talking about here? I have the same problem where it crashes on the first cutscene after character selection. Could you post the download links and maybe some instructions? Thanks! Also, you said you added the 3D analyse program, and checked Emulate HW TnL Caps. What is this stuff?
rhinohoops8
1) The .exe file in the guide isn't a crack; it's updated by SecuROM. 2) As for the .exe that's included with the widescreen patcher (the one by squizzy); that is a crack, and it might not work on an Intel mobile chipset. I couldn't get it to run on mine (mobile 965). KotOR2 supports 1280x768 natively, anyway, but you have to change the width and height settings in the .ini file because it isn't available in-game. 3) The newer Intel drivers don't have the option to set flipping policy. All you can really do is the Dantooine lag fix, try the original .exe from the patch (you didn't overwrite it, did you?) and if none of that works, download 3DAnalyze and mess with its settings. FOR THOSE WHOSE GAME CRASHES AFTER CHARACTER CREATION: FOLLOW THE STEPS IN THE 2ND POST, BUT AFTER ALL THAT, PUT THE ORIGINAL .exe BACK INTO THE FOLDER. IF YOU FOLLOWED THE DIRECTIONS, IT SHOULD ALREADY BE PATCHED. Found out my problem. I was using the new .exe, not the original. I patched the original earlier, so I didn't have to do it again. Dantooine lag fix is in the .ini. I didn't have to download 3DAnalyze and mess with its settings though. It works fine now! Thanks Q!
Q
Glad you finally got it to work. My experience was exactly the opposite of yours. Only the SecuROM-updated .exe would work on my laptop with an Intel chipset (965). For those of you with Series 4 and later chipsets I was sure that it had something to do with the graphics drivers, and it was the .exe all along. kizelMew
I have a problem where I can't even install the game. It installs normally (yet slowly) but when it gets to the end of the fourth disc it has an error that says Feature Transfer Error Feature: Starwars Knights of the old Republic II:The Sith Lords_Files Component: Default Component File: E:\data5.cab Error: Data Error(cyclic redundancy check) After this it just sits there for about 5 minutes then quits out of the installation like nothing happened. I tried setting the compatibility to xp like it says in the first post and I'm running the setup as an administrator but I still can't install the game. acdcfanbill
cyclic redundancy errors are usually because of corrupted data from the CD rom, are your CDs scratched? you could try getting them buffed at a 2nd hand CD store, or do it yourself if your feeling up to it. Q
It is most likely the swkotor2.exe. Try the original (from the patch) instead of the one updated by SecuROM. If that doesn't work, contact SecuROM via the link in the second post of this thread, run their utility and request a new .exe.
