Whoa hang on, when did I insult someone?
I think Lynk was talking about R9.

Now, I haven't played the full MGS3, MGS2, MGS4, or MGS (I have MGS, but my PSX broke down so I couldn't finish it, and I played all of the others at friend's houses, but never had a chance to finish them), but out of them all, from what I played, I'd say the first one. Now, remember, I never really finished any of them, so I might've missed some kind of big plot twist later in the game.

Ah, now I see, my mistake Lynk.

My bet is you did, all of 'em are loaded full of plot twists and revelations. At least I found someone to agree with me :D

No I mean a REAL FIGHT against Metal Gear, I may not have played the first one, but I have watched someone else play it as a kid, and I'm pretty sure that you don't have a real fight with it in Metal Gear 2 (Correct me if I'm wrong)

You're right, in some versions of Metal Gear you don't actually fight a Metal Gear at the end, but those aren't canon and Kojima wasn't involved in the making of those. The NES version of Metal Gear and the unofficial Snake's Revenge both have you fighting against a computer or something like that.

The MSX version (the original) and MG2: Solid Snake have you fighting Metal Gears. In Metal Gear, Snake fights Metal Gear TX-55 and in Metal Gear 2 he fights Metal Gear D.

I'm pretty sure in the first Metal Gear all you have to do is plant mines around his legs.

Oh, and did they have a Cyborg Ninja?

Yeah, you do, but it's still a real fight against a Metal Gear... just cause it has its oldskool limitations doesn't make it any less valid.

I wouldn't call planting bombs on a defenseless target a real fight :dozey:

You say that MGS followed the "trends" of the first Metal Gears, but did they honestly have all the human drama, and all the other stuff in MGS which has basically been recycled in sequels?

I guess machine guns and lasers don't count as offensive weapons anymore...

EDIT: *snaps fingers* actually you're right. You don't actually fight an active Metal Gear until Metal Gear 2. In the first game it was incomplete.

Yes. Like I said, the only problem was the limitations of the technology back in the day and the style of the time, but all of the human drama that came from MGS comes from its backstory... all of it which is from MG and MG2.

Having to fight Gray Fox in that minefield when you and he used to be comrades and having to defeat Big Boss when he was your commanding officer is human drama enough.

Haha, I knew it :xp:

Fair enough, my memory from back then is pretty shoddy. Although I still doubt it had everything included in the MGS series.

i have a quick question can anyone tell me what the difference is between MGS 3: Snake Eater and i think its called MGS 3: Substance ,ya i think thats right but ya whats the difference?

The main difference is that the original MGS3 had a top-down camera similar to MGS, while Subsistence has a over-the-shoulder type camera, more like your traditional 3rd-person shooters. The original MGS3: Subsistence also had playable versions of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2, I believe. However the "new" version of MGS3: Subsistence i.e. the one packed in with the MGS: Essentials pack, does not come with these two games playable. There are probably more differences, but I'm too lazy to look them up.
