The Radio

I'm one of those odd citizens of Great Britain who make up the "middle classes". As such I am forced (that is to say: volunteer to do something) to view the BBC, and Radio 4 in particular, as one of the greatest cultural achievements of the twentieth century. So without further ado, as the Minute Waltz fades away I'll start us off on the subject of "My favourite radio show":

- Just a Minute -- Contestants must talk for sixty seconds on a given subject without hesitation, repetition, or deviation while the other panellists buzz in to point out where they've gone wrong. On a successful challenge, they gain a point and take over the subject for the remainder of the sixty seconds. Here's an... ancient one with

.

- The Now Show -- Steve Punt and Hugh Dennis host a satirical look at the week's news through sketches, stand-up segments, and music. Mitch Benn, Laura Shavin, Jon Holmes (always introduced with some comment on his height), and (unfortunately) Marcus Brigstocke ranting for. On the failed terrorist attacks in London and Glasgow.

- The News Quiz -- The inspiration for the absurdly famous Have I Got News For You over on BBC 1 which now looks like it's eccentric cousin. Sandi Toksvig presides over a panel of comedians who mock the week's news. That's pretty much it. On Brown's ideas for a British "motto": "What's Latin for 'I keep thinking it's Tuesday?'"

- The Hitch-hiker's Guide to the Galaxy -- The radio programme which gave birth to the whole insane franchise. The existential elevator is my favourite part...

My fave radio show is from a local classical music station, with a focus on music from the middle ages and the renaissance. Not too long ago they had an orchestra from Turkey that plays music from the Ottoman Court..it was phenomonal. As they dont stream nor podcast... Luckily I can set my htpc to record it through the FM tuner card ;)
