So, as there are several routine posters in LF fromj GB, any thoughts on what this portends for Britain? <snip> Next election Conservatives will win, Lib Dems will take more of the vote than they have before, Labour is looking at a number of years in the political wilderness. Obama isn't bothering with the UK until our next Prime-Minister; Brown is a lame duck and should go now. Astor Posted September 30, 2009 Share Posted September 30, 2009 Gordon Brown is finished, both as Prime Minister and as a Politician in general. His speech, while uplifting for a time, is nothing more than rhetoric, and there's a lot of questions about some of the policies that were outlined. He's faced off countless coups, such as the one at the last Labour conference, and in June this year when Labour suffered a dismal showing in local and European elections. And by extension, the Labour Party seems to be pretty much finished. They're still in the game, but I think they're going to need to a miracle to win in May/June 2010. He took months to accept that cuts were needed in public services, after he ridiculed the Opposition for proposing cuts should they gain power. That's not to say that the Tories are necessarily going to make everything better. They're just as bad as New Labour, and while i'd ordinarily say 'they can't do any worse than the last lot', that remains to be seen. It's definitely going to be an interesting seven months, though.
