ForeverNight
Post your system specs, what KotOR's built in system scanner says your system is, DxDiag's log, OS, and any processes you have running in the background along with anything you may think is influencing this. To Access Dxdiag's log: 1) Press windows key + r (accesses Run) 2) Type "dxdiag" and press enter (without the quotes, brings up Direct X Diagnostics Tool) 3) Press the Save All Information button, which will create a text file 4) Copy and paste into your next post. Processes you have running in the background: 1) Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc (Accesses Task Manager) 2) Go to processes tab by pressing on it 3) Increase the size of the window until we can see all of the task manager and all the processes running in the background 4) Hit Print Screen (Saves image to clipboard) 5) Open up MSPaint/GIMP/Photoshop/Etc. 6) Paste image into the program and crop until all that is visible is the task manager. 7) Save image and upload to an album on LucasForums or to photobucket or the like 8) Link to image in post using as your syntax. Edit: Just noticed that you said you had Windows XP.

vanir
The file system.dll is missing! You should reinstall DirectX to get the latest version. My Dx9.0c installation has this file. I'd follow the advice.
Q
Updating DirectX might not be a bad idea. You can find the latest version here. Just download the file, extract it to a temporary folder and run the .exe. You can then delete both the temporary folder and the file you downloaded after installation is complete. There's also a couple of other things that you'll want to try. The first is the Dantooine lag fix: First, figure out where the .ini is installed. Default is "C:\Program Files\Lucasarts\swkotor(2)\swkotor(2).ini". If its not in that location, then your going to have to do some searching around on the hard drive a bit. When you find it, just double-click on the file to open it in Notepad. Scroll down the file until you find the Graphics Options Under the last line ("last line" as in the last line of the list of entries under "Graphics Options", NOT the last line of "swkotor(2).ini), add "Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1", without the quotes. Goto File, then Save. The second is setting CPU affinity: After starting the game, press Ctrl-Shift-Esc to bring up the task manager. Right-click "Knights of the Old Republic" under the applications list and select "Go to process." Right click on the highlighted process (probably something like (sw)kotor.exe) and select "Set Affinity..." In the dialog box that comes up, deselect all but one core. Then return to the game and see what happens ^/_\^ Just remember that you'll need to do this every time you start the game.
