"The satisfaction of knowing that I have been beaten badly by him and that I know it," Jun-la replied in a near mutter. "Power over the psyche is a dangerous weapon indeed."

**********

Matton glanced at Andorra and replied, "Probably not but I've been around Tavaryn enough to know that he may have a plan. I trust him, just don't know if the Jedi he's keeping company with does." Matton wasn't going to disguise the worry in his voice. Family was important to Jun-la's family. Their history was probably the most cruel in terms of being dealt a bad hand.

Matton took control of the helm and lifted the Ebon Hawk out of the canyon. He said, "Scan for a landing zone on top the canyon. One that is sufficiently safe from the blast. We won't leave them behind but we can't risk damage to the ship."

**********

Tavaryn managed a look and replied, "We stand a chance if we can get out. The canyon is riddled with caverns that we can dive into. Can't risk the chance of permanent damage to the ship."

The explosions were getting closer and Tavaryn was contemplating the possibility of hoisting Alriana on his shoulder and carrying her out but then figured that she would end up beating the crap out of him later. Looking up ahead he could see that they were almost ther but the other explosions were closer than before. He asked, "Do you trust me?"

**********

Tonatius awoke from his light sleep when he felt the ship lurch from takeoff. He jumped up so suddenly that he knocked over his blade which he had placed on a shelf and nearly fell over. He looked over at Kalla to see if she had been woken up.

"Do you trust me?"

Alriana looked over at Tavaryn while continuing to run as quickly as she could with a curious expression on her face. She didn't know what he was planning but it was clear he had something in mind.

"Yes...I trust you." She said as more explosions went off behind them. The explosions were very close now.

Tavaryn heard Alriana's reply. He took her by surprise and wrapped her arms around his neck so she was piggy backed and added an extra burst of sped, the last he could give and raced towards the entrance, relying on his instincts to avoid the now falling chunks of rock. "Hold on."

The entrance was just on them and he could feel the rapid collapsing of the tunnel. With a last ditch effort, he vaulted them out of the cavern and into the canyon. A plummage of smoke followed as the cavern collapsed but Tavaryn never saw it. He had landed hard and the pain shot up his legs as his body took the brunt of the fall. At some point he managed to twist in a way that would allow Alriana to be shielded from the sharper elements.

He had no idea how long he had rolled but he was aware of the hard rock that he hit to stop and he laid there. He managed to spit out, "You okay?" before he decided to take a nap.

"You okay?"

Alriana struggled to get to her feet and then looked over at Tavaryn who was apparently out cold. She smiled at him even though he couldn't see it and then walked over to him.

"You saved my life." She said quietly. "For that, I owe you a debt I can never repay. But know this, Anytime you need help I will always be there for you."

Alriana pulled out her comlink and hesitantly entered the code that would send out a distress call. She wasn't sure that Tavaryn was badly injured but he was out cold and that was enough justification in her book for medical help.

"I think I've spotted something about two clicks from the facility. It'll work if they can manage the hike, but there's nothing stable enough closer to them." Andorra pointed out to Matton.

"And I was having such a nice dream." Kalla commented, having evidently been woken up by the ship taking off.

"Too far if anyone is injured," muttered Matton, "But it's the best we've got." He maneuevered the ship to the zone that Andorra found.

Out of the corner of his eye, the medical emergency comm light was blinking. "Check that out," Matton pointed to Andorra. He didn't need the distraction as he maneuvered the ship to its new landing spot.

Jun-la rolled her eyes as the ship lurched but then smiled. "At least he won't crash though the pilots in his family have a tendency to do so." She chuckled while waiting for clearance from Pradhes.

**********

Tonatius was still struggling and landed with a thud. He heard something from Kalla but all that came out was a low moan and then, "Crazy pilot."

He sat up and leaned against Kalla's bunk and said, "The way that guy flies, no one gets any sleep."

**********

Tavaryn was out cold but his mind was a flurry of activity. He was aware that his body ached all over and tried to breach the wall of conciousness in order to ascertain the damage. His mind called out, Help me. He prayed that someone could hear him.

"He's going to need you up there." Lenatha assured Jun-la. "You're good to go."

"Not even when we need it." Kalla commented, starting to feel the drain from the clamp. As good as the feeling of blood returning to her arm was, it was certainly making her feel light-headed.

Help me

Alriana could hear Tavaryn call for help even though he was still out cold. She opened up a small pouch that was hidden on the inside of her robe and pulled out a small container filled with a blue watery liquid. It was a type of medication that she had had on her when she was frozen. It was one of the few things that belonged to her that had survived to see this new future.

She looked down at Tavaryn and then looked at the medication again and then sighed. It was the last container that she knew of in existance. But Tavaryn had saved her life and now it was time to repay the favor.

"This may taste bad Tavaryn...but it should keep you out of danger while your out cold, in fact, it may even wake you up before the others get here." She said quietly as she opened his mouth and poured the liquid into his mouth and then smiled slightly when he swallowed it. Alriana didn't know if it would help or not but it was worth a try.

And now we wait. she thought as the comnlink continued it's transmission.

"I'm feeling a bit light headed, but it's nothing I wasn't expecting." Kalla explained. "Doctor Pradhes did say it would take its too, but my arm will be as good as new in the long run."

"Matton, if you think they're injured, I have an idea. The calculations to find a safe landing spot were strictly considering the weight of the ship, but we'd still be able to find something for a smaller vehicle." Andorra suggested.

"That emergency comm signal means that someone is injured," Matton replied. He looked around at the landscape before looking back at Andorra. "What did you have in mind?"

**********

Tonatius listened as he leaned against the bunk, aware that his body ached from injury, exhaustion and a near crash take off. He replied, "Injuries as such take time but the fact that you felt lightheaded worries me, moi chroi. Usually that means a restriction of blood flow. Shall I get Pradhes?"

**********

Tavaryn despised showing weakness. He didn't want pity to result because he showed weakness yet he cried out for help because he felt trapped. He was trapped in a memory, a terrifying one. The fear he felt of the Imperials came back full force now that he was in a vulnerable position. He tried to fight it but it fought back harder until they almost overtook him until...

He felt the cool liquid pour into his throat. He watched it roar through and chase away the fear that had been plaguing him. When it finished chasing it away, he felt a gentle presence and turned to look at the direction it came. He saw the opening and went through it.

Tavaryn's eyes shot open as someone had tried to pour Alderaanian firewhiskey down his throat and he gasped. Immediately he was aware of shooting pain throughout his whole body in particular his legs and torso. Gingerly turning his head around, he spotted Alriana. Seeing that she was alright, he managed to say, "Guess I did right this time."

"The device is trying to push blood through a massive cauterised wound, and it's slowly working. That sounds like a restriction of blood flow to me. It'll get better as the device does its work." Kalla explained.

"You keep a small speeder in the garage of this ship, right? I'm both the least injured and the least needed on the ship at the moment, so if Jun-la takes my place here, I could drive it out there, and retrieve them." Andorra elaborated on her plan.

Tonatius was not completely convinced since he had seen wounds as bad as Kalla's before, but he wouldn't tell her that. He replied, "Sounds contrary to popular medical opinion but I trust Pradhes. It's just that I don't like seeing you hurt."

**********

Jun-la had completed a tour of the ship checking everything. The ship was old after all but she had been maintained as a favor to her family. She made a silent stop by the dormitories and overheard Tonatius talking to Kalla and smiled. At least I know one of your sons is happy Master Iakozi. She made her way back to the cockpit where Andorra and Matton were discussing a plan.

Matton was listening to Andorra and thought the plan was plausible but he pointed out, "Thing is we don't know which one is injured and how bad. Perhaps Pradhes should go with just to give a lookover?"

**********

Meanwhile, Haruka managed to make it back to the ship he and his companions arrived in. He took off for higher ground and found the Ebon Hawk settled above the canyon. He comm signaled, "Hey any of you Jedi see the Shinigami and that other Jedi?"

"Guess I did right this time."

Alriana smiled down at him as she sat down next to him. "You owe me big time Tavaryn," she said jokingly as she put the empty container back inside of her robe pocket. "That medication was the last of it's kind, the species that gave it to me had blue skin and red eyes and I haven't seen anyone like them since I was frozen."

Her smiled faded slightly. "I owe you my life Tavaryn and I mean that, if there is anything that I can do for you...then just let me know."

Tavaryn looked upward at Alriana and grinned, "Glad to be of service." He then closed his eyes and tried to sense around him and get a feel for his body all the while listening to Alriana explain about the cool liquid he had just swallowed.

"Sounds like you are describing the Chiss," Tavaryn replied thoughtfully. Truth be told, he was rather humbled that she would do anything for him. He was used to being on his own and depending on himself that it took him by surprise when someone gave a hand out to help him up.

Opening his eyes, he saw the smile fade from Alriana's face followed by, "I owe you my life Tavaryn and I mean that, if there is anything that I can do for you...then just let me know."

Reaching up with a free hand, he gently gripped Alriana's chin, his fingers caressing her cheek in the process. Looking up at her, he replied, "You don't have to owe me anything Alriana. I would do it no matter what for you."

(As I recall, one of the Republic Guardsmen who thawed Alriana out in Part VI was a female Chiss)

"I'm not an expert on how it works, and I probably wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't been woken up already." Kalla suggested. "I can already feel the light-headedness fading."

"I didn't know if she was done with Jun-la, but since she is, I'll go with her." Andorra replied, heading for the medbay. "Come on, Alriana and Tavaryn are going to need our help." She explained, leading her to the garage.

Matton nodded when the message came from Haruka. He called back to Andorra, "Hey you wanna take the kid that was with Tavaryn and Alriana?"

**********

Tonatius was relieved that the lightheaded feeling was fading. He replied, "That is good in my opinion." He managed to twist so that he was facing Kalla while kneeling. "Perhaps you should try to get some sleep moi chroi." He gave a light kiss on the forehead.

"You don't have to owe me anything Alriana. I would do it no matter what for you."

Alriana felt slightly uncomfortable, the last time someone had gotten this close to her it had been one of the Imperial inquisitors and it had been against her wishes. She had never liked anyone getting this close but she was sure that Tavaryn wouldn't be doing this if he knew what she had gone through those many years ago.

She gripped Tavaryn's hand and gently took it off her chin. "You helped me when I was afraid, when I was confused about this new future...I can never repay you for that Tavaryn...but there is something you should know, but I can't tell you, not yet anyway."

She smiled and got to her feet and then extended her hand down so she could pull him to his feet.

"The comlink is still transmitting, hopefully help should arrive shortly. If not...we can always ask the Geonosians for shelter."

"It might be a good idea, but if one or both of them are injured, there won't be room for a fifth person in the speeder." Andorra pointed out to Matton, and then she and Lenatha launched the speeder of the ship's garage.

"Yeah, I'll try." Kalla replied, curling back up on the bed.

"You helped me when I was afraid, when I was confused about this new future...I can never repay you for that Tavaryn...but there is something you should know, but I can't tell you, not yet anyway."

Tavaryn focused on Alriana's removal of his hand. It was gentle but he could sense history in that touch. He thought it was something he did and apologized, "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done that."

He tried getting up on his own but unvoluntarily let out a his of pain as he managed to sit up and lean against a boulder. His whole body hurt but he was hurt more by the expression that flitted across Alriana's face. He repreated, "I'm sorry."

**********

Haruka called over the comm, "I can meet you down there besides I can't imagine you trying to lift the Shinigami into the speeder."

Matton rolled his eyes as he nodded on the okay for Andorra to take off. Jun-la meanwhile was readying the medbay. Pradhes would want everything ready.

**********

Tonatius smiled but then it became nervous. He gave a small gulp and asked, "Do you want me to hold you?"

"I'm sorry."

Alriana simply nodded her head and a gentle smile appeared on her face. "You didn't know Tavaryn and I just want to assure you that I won't hold that against you at all. You sacrificed so much of your time helping me adjust to this new future, and for that I thank you. Lets just put this behind us for now."

Alriana's head suddenly turned toward the sky as she sensed something approaching them. She moved directly in front of Tavaryn, he needed rest and it was possible that whatever was approaching could be some of the remaining imperial troops.

I probably should have realized that either the imperials or the republic could pick up that distress call.

"Tell me...do you sense something approaching us or is it just me?" She asked as her hand went down to her lightsaber. It was better to be safe then sorry in her opinion.

Lets just put this behind us for now.

Tavaryn nodded in agreement but he couldn't shake the feeling of hurt that he felt for reminding her of a past hurt. It was the last thing he wanted to do and it just seemed to crumble his resolve. It felt as if this changed everything.

He tried to maintain a strong look as he listened to her asking him if something was coming. He managed to cast aside his pain for a moment to reach out. He replied, "I can't sense anything." He felt frustrated. "I wonder if the boy got out. He might be trying to find us."

"I wonder if the boy got out. He might be trying to find us."

Alriana began scanning the sky as she felt whatever it was getting closer and closer. "I certainly hope that it's Haruka that I'm sensing, if it is imperials I doubt we would be able to drive them away with the shape that we're in. I can only hope that whatever it is is friendly."

Alriana reached out through the force and sweat began to form on her head as she tried her hardest to reach out to whatever it was that was approaching them.

"It's no use. I can't seem to sense the intentions of whatever it is that I'm sensing."

Tavaryn made a thoughtful sound while avoiding looking at Alriana. He then replied softly, "I can't either. I'm sorry."

He then looked up at nothing in particular. The walls of the canyon were steep with few reasonable means of getting down to their level. A person would have to grapple down if they wanted to get down fast enough. He shifted his position to try and get more comfortable but only managed to give himself more pain and another low hiss came out.

**********

Haruka replied over the comm, "Over and out."

He jogged out of the ship stopping only to get some rope and hooks that he found in one of the cargo cylinders. The only way he could see getting down quick enough was grappling. Been awhile since I last did this, he thought as he slung a bag with medical supplies over his shoulder.

Once at the edge of the canyon, he set to work pounding in the hooks that would allow for his weight. Satisfied that they were in deep and firm, he hooked the rope on his belt harness and leaned back. Taking a breath, he pushed off and slid down. It came back easily as he made it to the bottom of the canyon. Releasing himself from the rope, he pulled out his comm and tried contacting them, "Hello Jedi? Are you and the shinigami alright? Come in."

He started walking in the direction of the cavern that collapsed. Every so often, he called on the comm, repeating his message.

**********

Tonatius heard the tiredness and responded like a skittish stallion, "My apologies. I'll just go and check in with Matton about the ship. Just get some rest."

He backed out as if he were afraid of a punishment of sorts and keyed the door to shut to the dormitories. Once it was shut, he leaned against the door and slid down to sit on the floor. Idiot. He thought the word with such vehemence, enough to be heard.
