Benny
Monkey Island Image Converter A program that allows you to convert .DDS images back into the .DXT format used in Monkey Island 1 Special Edition and Monkey Island 2 Special Edition. Usage is simple - its just drag and drop. If you drop a folder it'll recurse subfolders too. I've tested it with MI1 and MI2 and it seems to work fine. Get it here. Monkey Mania
You are a life saver! Here's a test: Edit: Hmm, 512x256 files seem to get corrupted. The graphics get all garbled.
Benny
Edit: Hmm, 512x256 files seem to get corrupted. The graphics get all garbled. Can you give me an example? Preferably with a file thats at the start of the game or on Scabb island at least.
TheHutt
Would it be possible to make a backwards converter (DXT->DDS or BMP) as well? I mean, for stand-alone DXT files, not for PAK files like in MI Explorer.

TheHutt
Yes, but what would be the point of doing this? Supposed I already have stand-alone DXT files outside of PAK files (for instance, from someone's mod) and would like to convert them to an editable format. kenand
We are working the Hungarian version of MISE 2. (We made Hungarian version of MISE 1 one year ago) We use Monkey explorer and Image converter. We save graphic files in DDS format. We edit paint.net and Photoshop. We save edited files in DDS format and Use Image Converter for DDS to DXT conversion. We translate French graphics to Hungarian. This way works well about in 99 percent. But we have trouble with some files. For example UI/Icons/fr_mapsaveloadmenu_bounde_pk_a01.dds I edited it, but displayed incorrectly, picture crashed and displayed in interlaced mode. ( I will put a screen shout) I save original fr_mapsaveloadmenu_bounde_pk_a01.dxt in raw format and put proper directory, it worked well. I rename en_mapsaveloadmenu_bounde_pk_a01.dxt to fr_mapsaveloadmenu_bounde_pk_a01.dxt put into proper directory, it worked well. BUT If I save fr_mapsaveloadmenu_bounde_pk_a01.dxt in DDS format (fr_mapsaveloadmenu_bounde_pk_a01.dds) and I do not touch it, only converted it to fr_mapsaveloadmenu_bounde_pk_a01.dxt with Image converter (with MISE2 option) displayed wrong. So I think Image converter do not work well everything.
Benny
I've just had a quick look at the file you've suggested and you're right. I think I know what the problem probably is: The file is 1024 x 256 A standard pc DDS file stores the dimensions as height x width (256 x 1024) DXT files store the dimensions as width x height. My converter reads dds files as width x height. This doesnt matter when dealing with square images, but of course, when there's a non-square image it breaks. This is why the bug's not been noticed before. I'll upload a fix now.

kenand
Fixed it: http://quick.mixnmojo.com/software#miimageconverter Thank you very much, Image Converter version 1.1 works perfectly! So at now I have only one problem. I do not find some UI elements to translate. I exported all image elements to dds. I translated all fr_*.dds files. But I id not find for example main menu logo ( I found it at mappause menu, but main menu use different image) and some other UI elements. May be Monkey explorer do not export all ui elements...... Finally We found main menu logo It is the ui\mapmainmenu\it\backgroundmapmenu_bundle_pk_a00.dxt directory!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And after I converted all DDS to dxt with Image converter 1.1 all interface elements replaced French ones. Thank you very much Bgbennyboy!

Longcat
I guess you have to put the converted dxt files back in the appropriate game subfolders, replacing the original ones?
kenand
No you must extract image files to DDS not DXT, Edit them paint.Net (or convert DDS to PSD , edit Photoshop and convert back to DDS) And save it with Monkey Image converter. Dear BGBennyboy, Please add XBOX support to Monkey Image Converter. XBOX do not like Monkey Image converted files. If I put converted image, only black screen displayed. Same files works with Windows version. ( I checked original DXT are same on PC and Xbox)
kenand
Yes There is not tool to compress back DXT to monkey2.pak Must put changed DXT the appropriate directory. (Extract monkey2.pak to raw format to see extracted directory structure) Bgbennyboy solved my problem, DXT to DDs conversion, and DDS to DXT conversion with XBOX support works at now.
